Job Title: Project Safety Engineer Salary/ Rate: Up to £45,000 Location: Bristol The role: Assisting the principal safety engineer with software safety assurance activities on Naval projects for the development and in-service support of complex electronic systems. Making sure that safety is inherent in the engineered design to achieve required safety targets and manage associated risks at an acceptable level. Responsibilities: -To act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) to designated projects; supplying extensive knowledge and experience in the defence environment for the development of real-time software and electronic systems in the sub-function of Safety Engineering; -To plan and carry out safety management activities for project scope commensurate with applicable standards at the required Safety Integrity Level (SIL; -Lead safety review meetings with safety stakeholders for purposes of Hazard Identification and Analysis (HIA) and safety/environmental risk reduction; -Carry out functional failure analyses to determine hardware and system reliability -To lead the derivation, documentation and justification of safety requirements Key Skills/ Experience required: -Qualified to degree level in an engineering discipline -Strong understanding of the requirements of defence projects preferably in the marine environment -Work experience with Defence Standards, Software Development Standards, military specifications and Lloyd`s rules e.g. JSP430, Def Stan 00-56/55 and IEC 61508 -Experience in software development and verification, software lifecycle documentation, development and verification tools and appropriate measures for good practice to defence standards, IEC 61508 and/or DO-178c -Good understanding of: safety controls to ensure safety is inherent in design, an appreciation of human factors, environmental hazards, quality, requirements management, test and acceptance processes. -Good planning, communications (including client-handling), organisational and co-ordinations skills..
