The Learning Technologist will be play a key role in AVADO’s Learning solutions team (Digital), with responsibility for ensuring course content is designed, developed and deployed via AVADO’s in-house virtual campus, Moodle - a popular open source platform used by universities and other public and private education organisations around the world.

The Learning Technologist will have technical and creative expertise and be collaborative in their approach to developing digital learning content, user experience and interactions. The post holder will be expected to think creatively about solution design and quickly engage with new technologies and delivery platforms.

This position is suited to someone who enjoys working with the latest technology, has a willingness to learn, pays attention to detail, and who interprets instructions correctly and efficiently to ensure they deliver on time. We’re looking for energy, enthusiasm, tenacity and a willingness to create innovative solutions that ensure the best experience is delivered not only to the learner but also to internal teams facilitating the students on the Virtual Campus.


- Create design and develop digital learning content using Moodle, Bootstrap and other common rapid authoring tools as appropriate for each learning activity

- Coordinate and deliver content updates to live courses, ensuring thorough testing is completed and issues are resolved, communicating the status effectively with the team

- Update and maintain the content of the Virtual learning campus – including course management, user/data management, and the resolution of issues

- Build and maintain close working relationships with colleagues from key functions across the business (including the product and delivery and platform support teams)

- Identifying areas for innovation that improve the user experience (for staff, students and clients), collaborate with Learning Solutions colleagues to develop proposals (e.g. LT Manager, Head of Learning Solutions and product owners etc)

- Identify areas for innovation and improvement from engagement and feedback from stakeholders (staff, students and clients) and bring these to the attention of Product Managers and the Senior Learning Technology Specialist

- Keep up-to-date with technology and platform developments to seek and identify possible improvements to the online learning experience of our students and clients

- Communicate technical and educational concepts effectively to all levels of the organisation as appropriate

- Design and deliver training and presentations to support the rollout of specific digital solutions as appropriate to the need and audience (e.g. workshops, one-to-one, online deliver to remote tutors, etc.)

Desired skills and experience: to join us you’ll need


- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience gained in a relevant working environment

- Experience of working in an established digital learning team, education provider or in an appropriate dedicated function

- Familiarity with common content formats and approaches (including SCORM, video, gamification, assessment tools etc)

- Working knowledge of Moodle functionality for course development and administration

- Familiarity with a standard production processes and methods and able to create storyboards and wireframes as required

- Knowledge of responsive design and mobile-first design (using tools such as bootstrap, HTLM 5, Adapt etc)


- Familiarity with project management

- Awareness of usability issues and best practice


-Experience of working with tutors / SME’s and Instructional Designers to design and deliver online and blended courses

- Experience of using the Adobe create suite and web conferencing tools (Adobe connect)

- Experience of managing animation and interaction development - including Google Developer

- Understanding of instructional design methods

- Project Management
