Technical Services Manager - Manchester

Blueprint Recruitment is currently working with an award winning and customer focused Gas Turbine business. Due to the continued success and growth within the company they are now recruiting for a Technical Services Manager to be based out of their site in Manchester


As Technical Services Manager you will lead the product sustaining engineering team and utilise your technical knowledge and professional experience to contribute to the delivery of industrial solutions- currently pumping and solids handling product lines- to improve these existing product ranges and support our internal and external customers' needs. You will be challenged to build and implement effective systems that will allow accurate planning and will result in positive on time delivery results. An appreciation of the commercial implications of engineering decision making, attention to detail and the ability to work effectively with and drive other team members are all critical for success in this role. You will be required to provide deliverables for the purpose of evaluating design alternatives, cost estimation and establishing manufacturing routes whilst acting as a focal point for mechanical technical matters. You should be keen to take on fresh challenges, develop your technical and interpersonal skills as well as expand your knowledge and experience through a variety of exciting projects.


o Maintain project schedule by monitoring project progress; coordinating activities; resolving problems
o Liaise with intercompany, intracompany, and external teams and customers to ascertain the project requirements
o Drive performance through structured tiered meetings using daily, weekly and monthly metrics
o Prepare project status reports by collecting, analysing, and summarising information and trends; recommending actions
o Be fully aware of personal workload, prioritise and organise to ensure deadlines are achieved
o Be fully familiar and conversant with department and company policies, procedures and processes, ensuring all work and actions undertaken are in full compliance at all times
o Apply technical knowledge to innovate, design and develop customised, forward-looking customer-centric solutions
o Maintain a keen global market awareness
o Reduce cost of product and increased production throughput through new design simplification and existing product redesign
o Perform data analysis and present modification & upgrade programs through quick and accurate engineering analyses (FEA, hand calculations etc.)
o Ensure all deliverables are verified and validated in accordance with all relevant Company policies and regulatory requirements
o Contribute to the investigation, resolution and documentation of Engineering Queries in a timely and technically acceptable fashion
o Lead internal design review meetings being aware of commercial implications
o Ensure that internal checking and approvals procedures are adhered to
o Ensure Company Engineering Change Procedures are adhered to
o Ensure Customer Care and Quality are always at the forefront
o Ensure that the training skills are met for current and future demands of the team
o Contribute to the development of systems and improvement in working practices and processes
o Ensure correct and thorough maintenance of project documentation
o Produce and check Mechanical engineering documentation deliverables
o Ensure a high standard of professionalism is maintained
o Absence management

o Conducting all stages of disciplinary meetings
o Support other departments and carry out other duties as and when business requirements dictate as may be reasonably expected by line manager
o Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in the work area and department
o Ensure compliance with all HSE legislation and HSE Company policy
o Travel as and when required


Has and uses the required functional and technical knowledge and skills to do job at a high level of accomplishment
Capable of keeping abreast of an evolving portfolio of products and services
Anticipates the impact of change and rises to the challenge, with the ability to accept risk and uncertainty
Adept at exercising good judgement (sometimes with incomplete information) whilst being constrained by tight deadlines
Able to apportion time effectively to complete tasks
Be willing to provide colleagues with the information they need to complete their tasks and eliminate roadblocks
Be quick to identify critical information and respond appropriately

Experience & Qualifications
" HND in Engineering discipline or equivalent
" Tertiary education in an Engineering Discipline (desired)
" Experience in a similar Engineering position
" Leading of cross - functional meetings
" Experience of supervising a team
" Proficient in the use of 3D CAD software to produce Engineering designs
" Understanding of Mechanical Engineering
" Knowledge of The Machinery Directive, PED, ATEX and REACH
" An understanding of the requirements of a design for manufacture, assembly and maintenance
