This post will provide the experience and education necessary to allow doctors to progress in the specialty of General Internal and Acute Medicine. Candidates will also be supported to develop their speciality interest and its anticipated that 60% of your time will be spend in general medicine and 40% in a speciality based role.

The post is intended to provide broad based experience and candidates will participate in the Registrar Medical on call rota for acute take and look after General Medical patients. There will also be an opportunity to have a flexible session for research or clinical interest outside acute medicine.

Clinical duties will be at ST 3+ level and successful applicants will take part in the acute medical rota at registrar level. This post attracts up to 7 days Study Leave per year, and the postholder will have access to funds to support agreed courses. Educational supervision and support will be provided using both a virtual learning environment and face-to-face teaching. You will also have a dedicated supervisor, mentor and e-portfolio for revalidation and career progression.

Please note that this post does not have educational approval from the Postgraduate Dean, but similar training will be provided as for trainees on a deanery training programme.

The appointee will work within a team of junior doctors advanced nurse practitioners. You will be expected to give opinions on and manage outpatients, and inpatients under consultant supervision. You will be expected to perform daily wards rounds within the acute medical unit. You will be expected to teach medical students, undertake some administrative tasks shared with SpR colleagues, and take part in audit.

Candidates will ideally have MD in Medicine and full/part MRCP and a minimum of 3 years' hospital service. Candidates will need to apply for registration with the British General Medical Council (GMC) and have good team working and communication skills.

Salary will be on the SPR (FT) pay scale which ranges from £30,302 to £47,647 per annum plus a banding supplement of 40% for on-call duties.
