Full time support required in the Nursery Class
Hays Education are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Teaching Assistant for a long-term, full time job to start in January 2018. This job will be supporting 2 pupils on a 1:1 basis (1 pupil in the mornings and 1 pupil in the afternoons) within the nursery department of a mainstream Primary school. This role will be for at least one academic year with the potential to be renewed on an ongoing basis.
As a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant, you will be working with one pupil in the mornings, and one pupil in the afternoons. Both children will be newly entering the nursery department as part of the rising 3's additional intake, and are currently going through a statementing process for learning/behavioural difficulties.
The successful candidate will have experience, and extensive knowledge of supporting the Foundation Phase Curriculum and Early Years Development. You will be supporting the pupils to achieve developmental milestones and learning goals, through structured activities and play. It will be essential that you build a good bond/working relationship with the children as a means of helping them to remain on task and focused, as well as ensuring that they feel confident and secure, both in terms of their work, and in their interaction with other pupils.
The Early Years unit within the school caters to more than 80 children, with an open-plan set-up. The right person for the job will therefore need to demonstrate initiative and apply a pro-active approach to tasks and to the fast pace of the environment. You will be competent in contributing to the smooth and efficient running of the nursery, and will be a positive role model for the pupils.
The school are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal skills who is able to build strong rapport with staff and children alike. You will need to be adaptable to change and have a positive attitude, a strong work ethic and a strong understanding of Child Protection and Safeguarding regulations.
In order to apply for this role, you will need;
To be qualified as a Teaching Assistant to level 3 (or above/equivalent),
Excellent knowledge and practice of the Foundation Phase Curriculum, and Early Years Development
Excellent knowledge and practise of working with children with additional needs
The ability to apply appropriate behaviour management techniques so as to help the children remain on task
Recent, referenceable experience as a Teaching Assistant within a similar environment.
