We're looking for a Development Test Engineer (NPDI) to join a growing team based in Royston. You'll provide expertise and support with regards to the validation of the performance capability and functional capability of new product development projects.
You'll work closely with mechanical, electrical, software and hardware design teams during product development and product enhancements providing input and analysis and also conduct feasibility studies of new products. This position may well suit somebody who's been a Field Service Engineer, but would prefer less travel!

What You'll Be Doing :

* Formulate, document and execute test plans to validate system performance against the target specification/requirements
* Produce comprehensive, detailed test reports to accurately document findings.
* Liaise with various departments to help resolve issues on machines
* Gain in depth knowledge of the operation of systems in order to assist with product development, continuous improvement and field issues
* Support the New Product Development processes by validating the maturity of the product at project milestones
* Support other functions with detailed technical input on new bids and during new platform development projects
* Take the lead in issue resolution (root cause analysis) during product testing
* Provide strong interface to Service, Quality, & Production teams to relay new knowledge gained
* Support the Technical Author with input to new User and Technical Documentation
* Develop test rigs, jigs or fixtures where necessary from concept sketches
* You may be required to travel overseas occasionally, but mostly you'll be based at Royston.

What We're Looking For :

* You'll come from an Engineering background!
* Ideally Degree qualified, or City & Guilds in a relevant engineering discipline or you may have come from an Apprenticeship background
* Excellent knowledge of electrical and electronic systems used in machinery
* You'll have a strong mechanical understanding (moving parts, motors, pneumatics, etc)
* Significant relevant field experience in the use of complex machinery with mechanical, software and hardware electronics content
* Awareness of key testing standards for compliance requirements
* Experience of product testing methods (EMC, environmental, vibration, durability, software validation, etc.) would be very useful
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with the ability to interface with all parts of the business internally and externally
* You'll be an excellent problem solver who can establish root cause
* You are someone who can think laterally with an overall vision and understanding of machine processes
* Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and make confident decisions.
* Awareness of Quality systems (e.g. ISO 9001).
* Good abilities with MS Excel, Word, Project & PowerPoint
