Ward Manager

Rhodes Wood Hospital provides specialist inpatient services unit for children and adolescents. We are developing our services and appointing a ward manager to lead and develop our inpatient service for young people with learning difficulties and ASD. The service provides an innovative and psychologically led treatment approach to support families and young people on managing behaviour that is challenging.

The post holder will be required to oversee day to day care and ensure the delivery of psychosocial interventions as part of the services model to offer positive behaviour management. The post holder will lead the team and contribute to ensuring the provision of a comprehensive high quality multi-component psychology approach across the unit.

The post holder will work with Senior Managers to ensure contractual requirements are met and effective outcomes achieved.

Our Ward Manager role involves:

Shifting/resourcing management in capacity of Senior Nurse on call
Effective strategic resource management
Leadership decisions within the context of Ward Manager
Performance management of junior staff
Ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
Personal development needs
Discipline and grievance issues
Serious incident reviews and implementation of recommendations
Ward Budget Management
Advisory role to nursing staff
Supporting the implementation of local Clinical Governance Strategy
Clear application of clinical experience
Satisfactory completion of objectives as agreed at appraisal and monthly supervision
Satisfactory fulfilment of core competencies
Demonstrating a clear application of a continuing professional development portfolio
Clear application of hospital policies and procedures
Demonstrating a positive contribution to senior nurses group
Facilitating delivery of practice and support supervision
Actively contributing to the Nursing Service Agreement, departmental Risk Matrix and action plan and monitoring their implementation
Satisfactory completion of designated annual mandatory training
Participating in and taking an active lead in organisational clinical and nursing audit programmes
Supporting senior management team at local level
Contributing to departmental and unit business objectives
Effectively managing positive change in the nursing department
Providing strong and robust leadership in the clinical environment using the core skills of facilitation, negotiation, conflict resolution, teaching and delegation.
Developing a coaching culture within the clinical environment
Demonstrating and modelling professional behaviours at all times
Support the implementation of clinical and corporate governance for the management of patient information.
Participate in service specific strategy and development.
Accept 24 hour responsibility for the hospital wards on a rotational basis within the framework of the on call structure.
Manage the achievements and maintenance of the Care Standards Act.
Provide managerial leadership through coordinating the production of philosophies of care and local procedures. These are subject to annual review.
Monitor the performance and conduct of staff and to take corrective action when necessary. This will include, where appropriate, involvement in the disciplinary process.
