Company Profile

Bank of America is one of the world's leading financial institutions, serving individual consumers, small- and middle-market businesses, large corporations and governments with a full range of financial and risk management products and services.

Bank of America Merrill Lynch is the marketing name for the Global Banking and Markets businesses. Combining local knowledge and global expertise, we offer products and services across Global Corporate and Investment Banking, and Global Markets. With a presence in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) for more than 90 years, we have offices in 21 countries across three continents serving the needs of corporate, institutional and government clients.

Across the company, we are guided by a common purpose to help make financial lives better, through the power of every connection. We deliver on this through responsible growth with a focus on our environmental, social and governance (ESG) leadership. ESG is embedded across our business and reflects how we help fuel the global economy, build trust and credibility, and represent a company that people want to work for, invest in and do business with. It is demonstrated in the inclusive and supportive workplace we create for our employees, the responsible products and services we offer our clients, and the impact we make around the world in helping local economies thrive.

An important part of this work is forming strong partnerships with not-for-profits and advocacy groups, such as community, consumer and environmental organisations, to bring together our collective networks and expertise to achieve greater impact.

Being a diverse and inclusive company has been a long-time priority for our CEO and his entire management team, and we see that commitment across our entire company – in our diverse workforce that allow us to bring our clients around the world, different perspectives that serve their unique needs; through programmes that support our employees; and in response to social issues that affect communities around the world. Our inclusive workplace allows all employees to be themselves, achieve personal success and contribute to the responsible growth of our company.

Across the company, Bank of America Merrill Lynch has a long heritage of supporting women’s economic empowerment and leadership, both through external partnerships and within our own organisation. Recent recognition for this work includes being cited as a leader in the annual Bloomberg Financial Services Gender-Equality Index; winning Women in Banking & Finance’s 2016 Team Diversity Award; and being honoured as Euromoney’s 2017 World’s Best Bank for Corporate Social Responsibility and their 2016 World’s Best Bank for Diversity.

Technology underpins everything we do and our investment in this space allows us to develop and deploy leading-edge technology in areas such as mobile and online banking, payments processing, technology infrastructure, cyber security, risk, capital- and enterprise data management. Our mainframe environment is the third largest in the world.

Our teams design, develop and implement technology applications, systems and operational processes to support our clients and the company’s employees around the world. From programming to data management, and innovation to information security, our teams provide the tools and resources that connect capabilities across our eight lines of business.

You’ll be part of an organisation whose influence is felt globally, as we manage the critical systems and technology platforms needed to maintain the company’s market-leading positions in all global businesses, including deposits, payment products, treasury services, investment banking, sales and trading.

Opportunities

We offer a variety of opportunities including apprenticeships, insight programmes, summer internships, industrial placements/attachments and full time roles. If you’re at the early stage of your first university degree, an insight programme offers you a general introduction to our businesses. Tailored programming and events help you develop new skills and learn more about opportunities with us in advance of applying for a summer internship. Summer internships typically last for 10 weeks and attract students in their penultimate year at university who aim to start work full time the following year. The summer internship class is our primary source of hiring into our full time programmes. It is a great way to get a taste of what a full time role in your team of interest would be like and to hone your skills through structured performance evaluations, training, development, and social and volunteering opportunities offered throughout the programme. In some locations, fixed-term placements such as off-cycle internships or industrial placements take place at various times throughout the year. These range in length according to business need.Full time analyst programmes are designed for candidates who are ready to start work upon university graduation. The programmes’ format and offering vary by business but all offer formal, ongoing training and development opportunities, structured performance evaluations, mentoring support and networking opportunities to supplement participants’ on the job learning and experiences.

Our process

Candidates who can demonstrate a high standard of academic, professional and extracurricular skills partnered with integrity, teamwork and leadership ability are of interest for our programmes.

Selected candidates are then invited to an assessment centre for competency-based exercises. First-round telephone interviews are required for most full-time programmes.
