What to expect

We’re looking for the future leaders of Commercial Banking – and this starts with our eight-week internship (please note the programme is 16 weeks in Canada). You will need to be forward-thinking, driven and perceptive, open to different ideas and cultures and enjoy being part of a team.

Over the course of the internship, you’ll take on a role in one of our Business Banking or Commercial Banking centres, supporting either our relationship managers or product teams. You’ll gain first-hand experience of how we provide solutions to our customers to support their growth. This will see you taking on a hands-on, customer-facing role alongside experienced managers and colleagues and a diverse network of peers. Your team will value your contribution and encourage you to take on responsibility and bring new ideas to the table. You’ll learn about the foundations of Commercial Banking and the importance of customer satisfaction.

You’ll also be able to take part in our sustainability initiatives. Our volunteering programme, for example, could help you to develop new skills, while contributing to the communities in which we work.

We offer a market-competitive pay and benefits package according to your location.

Learning and development

The internship will show you what it’s like to work within Commercial Banking and help you decide your career options. You’ll be challenged to use your talents and academic knowledge to add value to your team, the division and the bank, and improve your professional and personal skills.

You will drive your development, with regular access to business leaders for coaching and advice. You will also be assigned a mentor and buddy, who can offer guidance and support.

While there are plenty of learning tools in place, you'll benefit most from the people around you. You'll be sitting alongside some of the most talented people in the industry, who will be keen to pass on their knowledge. We'll also encourage you to build a network of contacts.

As well as comprehensive training, you will be paid throughout your internship.

Career paths

An internship is the beginning of an exciting journey that could take you to the highest levels in international banking. Perform well and you could secure a place on our Commercial Banking Global Graduate Programme after graduation.

Navigators wanted

We are looking for Navigators; people who provide dedicated products and services to our business customers and guide them towards new market opportunities and establish trade flows. You’ll need to be an excellent communicator with an eye for detail.

We assess all applicants against our values and our global graduate capability framework. Information on our recruitment and selection process can be found on our hints and tips page
