Fixed Income/Rates IT Architect - Docklands - up to £150k

A Canary Wharf based Investment Bank has an immediate vacancy for a Front-Office IT Technical Architect. You will be part of a group which is "a hands on" architecture and engineering group responsible for working across the trading and technology to define technology strategy and work with projects and teams to build world class technology solutions.

The architecture function is hiring an architect dedicated to the Rates business. The individual will work with senior business and technology stakeholders to lay out the roadmap for Rates front to back. They will then work with teams, initiatives and projects to deliver value to the business and solve engineering challenges. This is very much an engineering role as opposed to enterprise architecture. The successful individual will come from a strong engineering background and will ideally have exposure to one markets trading business (equities, rates, fx, credit or commodities). One profile of candidate may be an engineer who has had success in building a team and platform for a business functions and they want to grow in their engineering career by taking on a wider scope.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Work with business partners to define target state business architecture.
  • Identify major trends that impact the Rates business, identify technology impact and steer the organization to anticipate these issues
  • Take the architecture lead in responding to major initiatives impacting the trading business (everything from Regulatory initiatives to new business initiatives)
  • Drive architectural governance for Rates through early engagement and interaction with engineers and projects
  • Drive the maturity of solution design within the domain. This includes training or coaching engineers in solution design.
  • Provide consultancy be the point of escalation to pressing business or technology issues
  • Technology environment will include Java, Python, Unix, Cloud, HTML5.

  • Bachelor degree in computer science/computer/electrical engineering/maths/physics
  • Deep knowledge/experience of at least one functional area of markets (pricing, execution, connectivity, trade and risk management)
  • Experience with at least one line of business within markets
  • Experience in architecting project solutions and/or leading architecture for a larger organization
  • Experience in evaluating technology products and designs
  • Exposure to data architecture tools & techniques preferred
  • Team player with excellent communication skills and ability to work with and influence across teams
  • Confident in communicating with senior trading stakeholders, product, engineering and production
