SQL DBA - Stoke on Trent - Up to £50,000 + comprehensive benefits

My client has an urgent requirement for a DBA based in Stoke. They are looking for a DBA to work closely with the wider I.T team, in particular, Tech Ops, take responsibility for exciting migration project from 2008r2 to 2016, including Azure as well as show a proactive approach to service improvement

Responsibilities will include:
Purpose of Role

  • The role encompasses elements of DBA / SQL Development (80 / 20 split in favour of DBA)
  • To work as part of the Davies Group Database Team, developing new and existing database related functions
  • To work closely with Tech Ops / Database Developers and .Net Developers
  • Migrate Production and non Production servers successfully from 2008r2 to 2016

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor SQL Servers and troubleshoot issues as they arise to keep the production SQL servers running smoothly
  • Performance tuning and optimisation
  • Develop, Maintain, Support any new SQL SP's Functions that are needed
  • Maintain existing SQL Environments - Dev, Test, Stage, UAT, Production
  • Perform Backups / Restores as required
  • Provide day to day support to the wider IT Department regarding SQL Estate
  • Manage SQL Server and Database Security in line with ISO 27001 standards
  • Proactive approach to performance and process improvement
  • Previous experience of in insurance sector beneficial but not essential

Technical Key Skills

  • SQL Server 2008 R2 / 2012 / 2014 / 2016
  • Experience of SQL Migration to at least SQL 2012
  • MUST have Complex T-SQL - must be fully proficient
  • Experience of dealing with very large databases
  • SSRS/SSIS/SSAS would be nice but not essential
  • Indexes, Statistics, Execution Plans, Plan Guides
  • DMV's
  • SQL Agent Jobs
  • Replication / Log Shipping / Clustering / Mirroring
  • Availability Groups

  • Time Management
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Problem solving

Other Skills

  • TFS or similar source control solutions
  • Awareness of .Net Technologies / Entity Framework
