This is a contact post for 6 months, based in London.

This client is looking for a solid all-round developer, strong in Python as well as front end HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Someone who can take control of the project and drive it forward.

The client supports UK businesses to take advantage of the global appetite for British goods and services, as well as assisting international companies to collaborate with the UK. They are a specialist body revolutionising the way businesses access international markets.

Developers will follow the Department’s software development standards, including 48h to delivery principles. You will proactively seek to address roadblocks affecting assignments. You will also demonstrate collaboration within and between product delivery teams; reusing and sharing components, contributing to standards development, and sharing knowledge. And finally you will ensure that delivered products are resilient, scalable and report errors only when human intervention is needed.

The developers will be working as part of an agile team alongside, user researcher, UX designer, front end / back end developers, lead by a product owner and delivery manager.

There is an expectation that you will liaise with other developers and Technical Architects to share tools and knowledge where needed.

Responsibilities include:

  • Day-to-day responsibility for working within the product team to support, maintain and develop the product.
  • Work with appropriate members of the delivery team to build appropriate infrastructure to allow the visual display of data on a web-based front end.
  • Perform maintenance tasks as required for the accuracy and integrity of the product
  • Building web and mobile products to serve user needs
  • Being involved in the wider web development community, identifying good practices we can adopt and share experiences.
  • Share knowledge of tools and techniques with the wider team, both developers and non-developers
  • Taking part in 2nd-line support of applications and platforms, including occasional support outside of office hours

  • Strong in HTML5, CSS3, Javascript, ES6, Node.js, Express.js, React.js
  • Good database knowledge (PostgreSQL)
  • Good Python knowledge.
  • Strong UI experience and server side knowledge.
  • Extensive web frameworks expertise
  • Is comfortable in TDD and BDD environment.
  • Worked in devops culture and can automate deployment pipeline
