Infrastructure Engineer

Infrastructure Engineer required to work with a blue chip company based in Nottingham.

The role comprises areas of Windows / Linux Administration and elements of Automation.

Role Dimensions:

Primary Accountabilities:

  • To be part of a team responsible for management and evolution of a shared infrastructure which is used to facilitate software development
  • You will be expected to promote and ensure security best practices are followed by the software development group
  • Ownership of the security backlog of work we have across all global environments
  • Ensuring that our hardware meets the required security policies
  • Implementing automated processes to keep all hardware up to date with the latest patches and virus scans
  • Responsible for vulnerability and asset management
  • Self-manage to plan and organise your time so that all work is completed satisfactorily and meets agreed deadlines
  • Hands on approach to ensure successful delivery
  • Fast learner - can quickly get up to speed with vast complex solutions and knows how to acquire knowledge.

Working Practices and Relationships:

  • Engages with developers, testers and stakeholders to support with all work requirements
  • Engages with the security team and development leads
  • Becoming a representative for the local team in wider global discussions relating to security

Personal Requirements


  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in Computer Science or a related discipline.


  • Broad/Proven work experience in infrastructure as an engineer
  • Proven experience working with all aspects of security
  • Practical experience of using agile development methodologies

Technologies, Languages, frameworks

Experience and exposure to as many of the following as possible would be advantageous:

  • Experience with configuration and use of online collaboration & issue tracking tools (ideally Atlassian based)
  • Experience with version control tools and best practice (Git / Subversion)
  • Security, Cost & Policy Management for AWS EC2 & Virtualisation Software (ideally VMWare)
  • OS and Application administration & maintenance automation for Windows and Linux (ideally Chef)
  • Experience of using Black Duck, Burp Suite, Qualys & Veracode would be ideal
  • Experience with Continuous Integration, Delivery and Build Automation processes
  • Understanding of software delivery and deployment (scalability & failover setup)

Key Behaviours:

  • Excellent communication skills (presentations, conveying complex messages and interactions). Written and verbal fluency in English is required
  • Able to work as part of a global organisation across boundaries - geographically, language and cultural
  • Possesses an astute business awareness to understand 'why' we are doing something
