When the system goes down - we'd better be ready.

What does "reliability" mean to you? A safe pair of hands? Always there when you need it? At William Hill, it means all this and much, much more.

We have a rare opportunity for a Site Reliability Engineer to join our tech team here in Leeds. You'll deliver continuous improvement to the availability, performance and scalability of our in-house developed system components and supporting services.

One of the main aspects of the role is working closely with architects and developers to define hardware, network, security and configuration solutions. You'll also help with go-live transition planning. You'll identify and implement systems and service improvements, and use your expertise to advise other departments, reducing loss to the business. You'll be a mentor to performance test teams, providing analytical and technical assistance. Your excellent communication skills (along with a knowledge of information systems and web technologies) will help you provide detailed third line support.

Your relationships within the Product Delivery Teams will be important. They'll work with you to define appropriate project plans for delivering improvements. Our goal is to improve the ability, performance and resilience of our tech solution. Your proactive approach will make sure we reduce breaks/issues by monitoring into solutions (Non Functional Requirements).

Ideally you're from a large scale organisation with experience of multi-tier architecture. You need to be able to provide strong technical leadership and direction. Good appreciation of Apache, JVM, Linux/Unix, SQL and monitoring tools is essential. We don't need you to code, but an understanding of different programming languages will help. Strong supplier management skills are important, to co-ordinate the support activities of internal and external provider. You're self-motivated, and happy to take the lead on your own work and development. We're always looking for ways to improve the services we provide, so if you're proactive and inventive, you'll fit right in.

You'll be part of the team supporting our global networks, infrastructure operations delivery, automation, service delivery services. You might get the chance to work with and support colleagues across the globe. These roles don't come up often - and there's real potential for your future career to grow in our international business. Strike while the iron's hot.
