Engineering Manager/Supervisor
The Company is a leading Tier 1 component manufacturer and supplier, specialising in the machining and assembly of a number of product ranges for the power generation and off-highway. There is a strong focus on customer satisfaction in the business with a right first time mentality. Due to planned group expansion, they are now searching for an Engineering supervisor / manager with machining experience to work within the production area.

The Role:
Reporting to the Group technical director & site MD, the role is to support, grow and continuously improve the manufacture of world class products. The candidate will be a critical team leader in developing new methods of manufacture for machining of internal components to drawings specifications. You will be required to working closely with the Engineering, quality and Manufacturing teams to influence the design for manufacture on existing products and NPI. Key elements for the role will be NPI, customer liaison for NPI to include APQP, PPAP etc. activities. Knowledge of designing jigs & fixtures, tooling, create work instructions, improve product flow, transfer machining from old assets to new and create cell layouts new or existing machining areas.


*Manage Engineering team from office based to hands on technical team.
*Work closely with the other heads of departments.
*Lead process improvements and NPI projects.
*Develop the machining cells to ensure they are world class.
*Support the production team on a day to day basis to ensure timely delivery of customer expectations.
*Support the machining cells on real time problem resolution and technical issues.
*Be proactive in the recommendation of new or improved manufacturing techniques.
*Supply cost down analysis and project plans to reduce prime costs.
*Create and develop product BOM's, routings and work instructions.
*Compiling manufacturing cost estimates. - If no experience then training will be given.
*Identify waist and define methods of reduction within the process to allow continual improvement.
*Support Capex plans, Capex creation and Capex implementation.

Skills and Experience:

*A proven track record within Production / Manufacturing Engineering or similar.
*Strong knowledge of machining techniques.
*A good knowledge of castings.
*A good knowledge of cutting tools.
*Knowledge of Mazak controls is desirable
*Fixture design is desirable.
*Extensive knowledge in machining large & small cast & steel components.
*Experience in implementing lean improvements within a machining & assembly environment. (Kaizen, Flow, 6's, Process Mapping, RCCR, SMED, Standard Operation Sheets, TPM & Visual Management).
*Extensive knowledge of BOM's, routings and work instructions.
*Automotive industry or off highway experience will be beneficial.
*Experience of managing Capex projects.
*Experienced in NPI and process improvements.
*Able to compile shop floor process instructions and safe working procedures.
*Able to work under own initiative, lead teams and as part of a team.
*Experience of time measurement and analysis of lost time.
*Communicating and presenting data effectively.
*Familiar with Quality Systems / PPAP & Environmental Issues.
*Previous experience working manual & CNC machine tools.
*Experience implementing Lean improvements.
*Experience in mid / low volume assemblies.
*Ability to pick up a project from cradle to grave hitting pre-determined time lines.

Education / Qualifications:

*Recognised Technical Apprenticeship.
*HNC level equivalent in manufacturing engineering or equivalent experience.
*CAD experience is desirable.
*Experience of Mazak controls and machines preferred.
*Proficient in the use of MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
