Are you passionate about delivering reliable and effective Server and storage infrastructure? Is providing a high standard of customer service important to you? We are seeking an experienced Server and Data storage Technician to work in the Information Services Infrastructure Team to implement and maintain both public facing web site and internal infrastructure services to meet operational requirements across Transport for Greater Manchester.

TfGM oversees transport in Greater Manchester, delivering and improving transport services, facilities and information to make travel easier for everyone. We deliver high-profile, large-scale transport projects, and it’s our experts who provide the information and analysis to shape transport strategy. This is a busy and exciting time for us: under the devolution agreement and with Greater Manchester at the heart of the Northern Powerhouse, transport will play a vital role in supporting growth and prosperity in the UK’s largest regional economy outside London.

In this role you will deliver a reliable and effective server and storage infrastructure service, with an emphasis on the management of web infrastructure services and a range of server and storage services, monitoring and reporting of infrastructure performance as well as implementing new solutions within agreed IT strategies.

You will have demonstrable experience in web technologies (Linux systems and Amazon Web Services administration) in a DevOps role, the implementation and maintenance of an AWS services infrastructure as well as experience supporting Linux systems including CentOS with scripting, automation and Orchestration tool skills. Experience of Terraform and packer tools, as well as knowledge of Microsoft Azure and server infrastructure services is desirable.

The role also requires you to have experience of the research and development of new technologies. Ideally, you should have had exposure to best practice web and enterprise security techniques including PCI DSS, Penetration Testing, Vulnerability Scanning and Ethical Hacking.

The salary for this role incorporates a market supplement which has been agreed to bring the total reward package up to the market rate. This will be paid on a monthly basis and will be reviewed after a two year interval to determine whether market forces continue to justify the supplement.

As well as a competitive salary, we offer a fantastic range of benefits, including:
- free home to work travel by train or Metrolink within the Greater Manchester boundary;
- free bus travel across Greater Manchester;
- 27 days annual leave;
- access to the local government pension scheme

If you believe you have the skills we need in this exciting and challenging role we would really like to hear from you!
