My client, a leading Digital-driven organisation based in Northamptonshire are looking to recruit an experienced Senior IT Portfolio Support Officer to be responsible for leading activity to deliver a Portfolio Support capability which provides excellence in portfolio selection, reporting, resource planning, data analysis, quality assurance, and project/change best practice.

Scope of the role

  • You will design and implement a suite of reports, underpinned by agreed KPIs and good quality data, which provide regular, high quality and easy to understand updates on the progress of our change portfolio to stakeholders at all levels across the business, both within and outside of Innovation.
  • You will create an online library to store all of our framework and process documentation, together with templates and exemplars. You will establish clear ownership for all artefacts and will implement a regular review cycle to ensure all material remains up to date. This library will be available and easy to use for anyone with an interest in delivering change via projects.
  • You will develop our project auditing strategy to provide assurance regarding application of our frameworks and processes in the successful delivery of projects, and to ensure any identified shortfalls are addressed.
  • You will play a key role in selecting the appropriate tools to deliver the described Portfolio Support capabilities
  • You will create and manage an effective resource management capability within IT ensuring resource availability and workload is tracked and reported, resource capacity is understood and work is allocated in line with agreed priorities
  • You will facilitate the demand management process, driving consistency across inputs, communicating outcomes and providing information to enable effective decision making about the relevant priority of projects

QualificationsEssential skills

  • Significant experience of working in a Portfolio Support Office which oversees delivery of complex IT projects
  • Experience of creating new PSO capabilities and engaging effectively with others to ensure their successful implementation
  • Experience and understanding of project methodologies including Agile and waterfall, with formal qualifications an advantage
  • Experience and understanding of Project Management practices, including risk and issue management, change control and planning.
  • Expert in design of business facing reports, and online information sources
  • Expert in portfolio planning and resource management
  • Able to build collaborative relationships, gain credibility and challenge constructively across the organisation
  • Strong research, analytical, problem solving and decision making capability. Reliable decision maker with the ability to make informed decisions based upon analysis, wisdom, experience and judgement, offering appropriate solutions and suggestions.


  • P30 qualified
  • Knowledge and experience of Project and Portfolio Management and Planning tools
