We are seeking to appoint an Oracle Database Engineer to join the Database Services Team within IT Services. The department supports both Essex Police and Kent Police and as such has a wide range of systems and databases to maintain. With an innovative approach to technology we are always striving to deliver new and exciting high quality solutions to our intelligence led Police Forces.
This role will be located at our Headquarters in either Chelmsford, Essex or Maidstone, Kent depending on the locality of the successful applicant. The team have responsibilities for over 600 databases, with a requirement for 24x7 on-call cover (on a rostered basis). This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer to join a demanding but rewarding environment. This is a fast paced and challenging role which includes supporting systems critical to operational policing. This role will be highly suited to a dynamic and self-motivated individual who can work well under pressure when the need arises. You will need to be a strong team player and have a high degree of technical focus with a keen interest in database technology.
We are looking for individuals with a minimum of two years Oracle DBA experience in a medium sized organisation. Applicants should have a solid background in either Oracle 11g or Oracle12c with exposure and knowledge in the following areas :
Database monitoring, performance tuning and optimization; database high availability and fault tolerance; database troubleshooting and fault resolution; database security ; database backup , restore and point in time recovery ; data warehousing (desired but not essential) ; database installation, patching, upgrades and migrations.
It is essential that you have a good level of proficiency in more than one related discipline. With a broad knowledge of current technology you will also be providing technical advice and support for database development as well as database administration. You will have a wide range of skills gained from working in an ICT environment for a medium sized organisation. Experience and working knowledge of SQL, PL/SQL , Oracle Linux, Shell scripting , TOAD, ITIL v3 and exposure to virtualization would be highly desirable. Skills in Microsoft SQL Server or MySQL would be advantageous but not essential.

- Proven DBA Experience in Oracle (11g/12c)
- Working knowledge of Linux or Linux related operating systems
You will be expected to work a 37 hour week, Monday to Friday and somewhere within our core hours of between 08.00 – 17.00. You will be part of an on-call rota once every six weeks.
