Senior Java Developer required for prestigious financial organisation based near Watford, Hertfordshire. The main purpose of the role is to participate in defining the technical design of high performance, scalable, mission critical payments services using Java and Oracle technologies. To implement solutions in line with enterprise architecture, principals and agreed designs, and a quality service is delivered into test and production environments successfully.

Duties Include:

  • Responsible for the implementation of multi million pound national payment processing services in line with the agreed enterprise architecture and designs.
  • Recognised as senior members of distributed teams of between 5-60 people, responsible for ensuring designs implementations meet the business/customer requirements within the specified SLA's.
  • Agree future technical standards company wide to be adhered to.
  • Are domain experts from a technical implementation perspective and a point of reference for other members within the programme.
  • Responsible for ensuring implemented code is in accordance with defined quality and coding standards, design and architectural principles.
  • Delivery of any assigned tasks within specified timelines, to the expected quality.
  • Responsible for providing high level task cost estimates, for future IT propositions based on solution overview documents.
  • Provide technical inputs to support business units to be able to respond to external queries, RFI's and RFP's.
  • To actively participate in the recruitment of permanent, contract and partner resources.
  • Act as a mentor to less experienced developers and be responsible for up skilling new additions to existing project teams.
  • To identify opportunities to strengthen departmental processes, tools and ways of working.
  • To understand and adhere to the company IT methodology SDLC. This includes proactively raising timely exceptions/risks/issues, driving a culture of continuous improvement to raise the quality of deliverables.
  • To carry out any other task associated with the role as reasonably requested.
  • Skills Required:

  • Top third percentile Java developer.
  • Proven technical experience and broad knowledge of the following: Unit tests and related frameworks - Spring -Hibernate - XML and associated processing technologies - J2EE technologies - Core Java 5+ - Oracle 10g+ and PL/SQL - SOA - Web services - Defect management tools - SCM - JEE application Servers.
  • Appropriate use of industry design patterns.
  • Ability to analyse and solve the majority of highest priority/severity defects, and most technically challenging problems to a successful outcome.
  • Able to correctly implement complex functionality and extend/use existing frameworks.
  • Good knowledge and experience of UML and Object-Orientated Analysis and Design principles.
  • In depth experience in the full life cycle of software development (inception to transition/Live).
  • Ability to lead a technical team of up to 10 to deliver to agreed deadlines.
  • Able to competently carry out complex tasks with minimal support when instructions are given.
  • Experience in creating and reviewing technical/design documentation.
  • Proven track record in implementing scalable, high performance Java/Oracle processing systems.
  • Highly experienced in the implementation of mission critical, resilient multi-threaded batch processing systems.
  • Able to contribute to debates with architects to discuss optimum solutions which meet both the technological and business needs.
