We are looking for an exceptional and experienced Software Development Manager to work with our current team and help drive Missguided towards our goal. Our ideal Software Development Manager is someone who can add new ideas, experience, energy and enthusiasm into the mix. The successful Software Development Manager will need to enjoy and thrive from working in a fast-paced environment and work well under pressure.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

You will work alongside another Systems Development Manager and a Test Team Lead in a collaborative manner that will ensure consistent quality and best practice are followed within the development and QA teams.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for the ongoing technical and personal development and pastoral care of any and all employees that they line manage.

Reporting to the Head of Development, you, in conjunction with your counterpart, will be involved with overseeing the development practices of multiple Scrum teams with developers across sites, working in conjunction with Scrum Masters, Business System Analysts, Development, QA to ensure that the Scrum teams have everything they need to succeed in terms of development capability.

You will work collaboratively with the Head of Development and their management team deliver strategic technology initiatives, whilst ensuring minimum impact on the team’s capability to deliver business value and benefit at all times.

You should take a pragmatic approach to Agile Scrum, CI and other practices, adapting them to fit with the needs of the business and department rather than taking a dogmatic text book approach.

Specific Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

·Line management of employees. Continued development of staff both technically and in soft skills. Highlight any issues or concerns to Head of Development and counterpart.

·Experience of managing developers across multiple geographic locations

·Work with Project Managers, Business Analysts, Scrum Masters to evaluate and size up projects

·Close technical management of key projects as requested by the Head of Development, ensuring standards and process are adhered to, that the team are estimating fairly, time is being recorded appropriately, technical solution is not over complicated and sits within the architect’s vision. Identify and escalate any need for additional resource

·Must be able to manage meetings effectively, keeping them on track and focused in a calm and authoritative manner, particularly when under pressure to resolve issues.

·Must be able to motivate staff, offer support, advice and guidance

·Actively promote a DevOps culture, working with the development management team to move the team in this direction

·Work with Head of Development to plan resources to deliver maximum business benefit as required.

·Ensure that quality of work meets the standards required and that all deliveries are fit for purpose.

·Ensure that the development team follow Missguided development practice and process at all times

·Take ownership of live defects passed to development, prioritise and assign to the relevant member of the Rapid Response team.

·Work with Head of Development and your counterpart to determine, track and manage IT costs and keep in budget

·Remain abreast of technology and help drive IT strategy to meet business needs

·Manage and promote relationships with key stakeholders including 3rd party vendors

·Assist the Head of Development and their management team in building a high performance, pro-active team who strives for continuous improvement and service delivery

·Identify areas for improvement, work with the Development Management team to decide if/when/how to progress these changes.

·Deliver strategic IT initiatives, such as continuous integration, in collaboration with the development management team, as directed by the Head of Development

·Ensure SLAs are maintained with 3rd party vendors

·Become an expert on the Magento Platform and its capabilities

·Produce business cases for technology

·Ensures good code practices are in place and coordinates system testing

·Identify and escalate any issues that need management input to resolve in a timely fashion

·Effective and appropriate stakeholder management

·Understand the business systems and how they interact

·Work alongside your colleagues in the Scrum team to deliver a quality product on time, employing common sense and pragmatism to deliver business value.

·Any other activities as outlined by the Head of Development

Skills, Experience and QualificationsEssential:·A minimum of 8 years’ experience, at least 2 of which have been in a lead or management role.

·A minimum of 4 years’ relevant commercial experience using Scrum in an Agile environment, ideally within a retail organisation.

·A minimum of 4 years’ software development. This should include:

oObject Oriented PHP

oSome frontend development experience (HTML, CSS)

oKnowledge of MySQL and relational databases

oVersion control and branching strategies

oUsing command line interface as part of your workflow

·At least 1 year of line management experience

·Ability to learn basic skills outside of comfort zone (e.g. Magento EE)

·A basic understanding of HR processes in relation to Line Management

·Experience setting SMART objectives and KPIs

·Must be a confident face to face communicator, with excellent communication, interpersonal and team-working skills

·Experience of coaching and mentoring development staff across multiple locations

·Experience working with third parties and with Scrum teams based across multiple sites

·Proven influencing skills, ability to promote the benefits and successes of working in an Agile way as well as the benefit of technical projects to non-technical staff.

·Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with keen attention to detail.

Desirable:·Magento Certification

·Strong Magento (ideally EE) development experience Mobile development experience

·Use of Jira issue and project management tools

·Experience working with AWS and associated technologies

·Understanding of the benefits of various tools and concepts, such as Continuous Integration and DevOps that can enable teams to be “more Agile”

·Understanding of other development methodologies, such as Kanban
