Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Unix Systems Administrator to join our team. This role will suit an individual with an analytical approach to systems and problem management with a proven track record of success in a comparable role.

As a Unix Systems Administrator, you will be working closely with the IT team to ensure the day-to-day running of the computer systems and improvement projects. You will have at least 3 years’ of experience in a similar role and a keen willingness to learn as this is a hands-on role.

In addition, you will be required to support and maintain various ‘in house’ generated reports for finance and marketing and play a pivotal role in the implementation of a new project management system. You will also work closely with the marketing team to support on any website issues and be the point of contact with our web authors.

Key Responsibilities

•Maintain ‘in-house’ developed queries.

•Source, recommend and implement data analysis tool.

•Help maintain Linux servers in virtual environment.

•Be involved in general IT projects and solutions.

•Maintain server patches and maintenance plans.

•Take ownership of all Linux issues and scripting.

•Ad-hoc automation tasks.

Essential Skills and Experience

·Strong Server Admin (CentOS or other types of Unix).

·Strong command line interface and shell scripting e.g. bash - ruby

·Basic Windows OS administration and Mac OSX

·Strong ability with LAMP stack (Apache, MySQL, PHP).

·Virtualisation (VMware).

·Experience and/or interest in supporting high-availability and highly-scalable storage systems.

·Interest in high-speed file transfers technologies (Aspera, Signiant).

·Excellent troubleshooting skills.

·Excellent literacy, organisational and communication skills.

·Ability to identify and solve problems on your own or as part of a team.

·Flexibility to adapt to different work situations and patterns.

·Ability to manage own time effectively and to prioritise workload.

·Be security-minded and knowledgeable about the dangers of IT security risk.

·Be proactive in self-improvement and keeping up-to-date with IT technology.

Desirable Skills and Experience

·Experience of working with Windows Server (2008/2012), Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel and Office 365), Network Administration and AWS.
