My client are a leading research institute that specialise in research and analysis of genomics to help tackle global challenges through life science research.

Main purpose of role;

-You will be responsible for the delivery and management of the critical software infrastructure to support the group including the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).

-The LIMS will need to support a customer portal, automated communications, transparency of lab operations and audit trail. It will also need to deliver management reporting for the genomic platforms.

-You will report to the Project Management Team Leader, working closely with the rest of the group, ensuring the LIMS contributes to the efficient, effective and safe operations of the laboratory work. You will also be responsible for the Quality Assurance and Documentation for the LIMS.

-Additional responsibilities for maintenance and integration via RESTful and non-RESTful APIs with the LIMS system is anticipated.

-The group may consider other LIMS and you will take a leading role in the implementation of any new LIMS.

Role responsibilities;

-Plan and manage daily work and a programme of development work, working part of a team or independently.

-Maintain the LIMS system ensuring continued function following the inclusion of new features, and to provide timely bug fixes. Assist with investigations into system and user issues or trouble shooting.

-Work with the Genomics Pipeline and Regulatory Genomics Group to identify a roadmap for LIMS.

-Consider best practice on other LIMS and consider how these could be incorporated into the LIMS.

-Integrate the LIMS with additional systems.

-Aid the external developer and user communities by providing accurate up to date documentation and support.

-Continually assess the LIMS system and consider strategic changes in IT infrastructure.

-Support the development and roll out of new systems, and be responsible for future upgrades, and bespoke coding required for the group.

Ideal candidate essentials;

-Degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science or Information Technology, or similar significant experience in software development.

-Experience in successful software development projects using established development methodologies.

-Provable experience in Java, preferable including Spring, Java EE, JSPs/ servlets.

-Promote and strive for continuous improvement.

-Ability to work flexibly when required and able to travel and work non- conventional work pattern at times.

-Demonstrated ability to work independently, using initiative and applying problem solving skills.

-Able to present a positive image of self and the institute, promoting both the international reputation and public engagement aims.

-Ability to maintain confidentiality and security of information.

-Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

Desirable experience;

-Master's degree (or equivalent) with a clear focus on software development.

-Experience with Agile Programming practices.

-Experience in developing computational methods and/or algorithms.

-Experience in XML technologies, including XSD, XSLT, DTD.
