We are currently working with a Special Educational Needs school in North London. They are currently looking to recruit a teaching assistant to start full-time and long-term, ASAP, who has experience working within SEN.

The school caters for primary and secondary aged students who have complex needs. The school is very well managed and is rated as 'Outstanding' by Ofsted, but it does have its challenges due to the range of SEN students, making this a physically and mentally challenging role.

The school is designated as Complex Needs; all students have a learning difficulty plus other needs which could be medical (such as epilepsy, feeding issues, diabetes etc.), ASD, ADHD, communication difficulties, emotional and behavioural difficulties, Downs syndrome and other genetic syndromes etc.

You will be expected to work within a small class usually numbering between 4 to 5 students. Each class has a teacher and 2 to 3 teaching assistants, enabling all pupils to receive the appropriate amount of care and support. You must be calm, flexible, have an understanding of SEN, behaviour management and communication difficulties and be willing to be involved in the everything that goes on in the school.

The school is within walking distance of an overground and mainline train Station and is on numerous popular bus routes.

Key skills and experience needed:

  • SEN experience is essential, preferably with young people with complex needs
  • Previous support work within a school or other child related experience
  • Strong behaviour management
  • One to one and small group work
  • Professional manner
  • Enthusiastic, positive and friendly approach
