Stobhill Primary School is a non denominational, co-educational school situated within the Gorebridge area of Midlothian. The new school building opened in April 2008 and provides fantastic resources both within and outwith the building. There are 8 classroom bases in two units of four, all with sliding doors which open onto a bright shared atrium area. Other facilities include a gym/assembly area, an expressive arts room, library, additional support needs base, and a number of small tutorial rooms. There is a Nursery Class with its own kitchen area and fantastic outdoor learning space. The Outdoor area includes a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA), a small climbing wall, an outdoor classroom area, climbing frames, seating and a grassed area.

The kitchen serves a dining area with the opportunity for outdoor eating when the weather is right.

We aim to provide a warm and caring learning environment where pupils, parents and members of the community feel welcome and where a positive partnership between home and school is encouraged. We encourage parents to contact school if they have any concerns so that we can work together to resolve any issues without delay.

The school currently has eight classes and a roll of 198 pupils aged 4½ to 11½ and a morning and afternoon nursery class with 30 pupils aged 3-5 in each. We work as a team to support each other in our different roles.

We work closely with our Newbattle Learning Community including Newbattle High School and the other feeder primaries, together with the Children & Families Team and other partner agencies to promote social and educational inclusion and to provide a supportive and healthy environment for pupils and staff. Within the community we also work in partnership with the Active Schools Team, Library Services and Midlothian Outdoor Learning Team.

There is also a Community room and a community facility is used by Arniston Playgroup.

It is essential to have basic literacy and numeracy skills at Standard Grade General level or SVQ2 in Early Years Care and Education, or National Certificate unit in Childcare & Education, or equivalent competency, to enable the jobholder to communicate effectively with staff and pupils, and provide sensitive support.

The jobholder must be familiar with child development and able to respond sensitively to the needs of individual pupils.

If the post is within a Nursery Environment then the Jobholder must be registered with or obtain membership with the SSSC within 6 months of appointment. In order to register you must currently hold the relevant qualifications or be willing to work towards attaining these qualifications within the first year of registration. For further information about the qualifications recognised by SSSC for registration in a Support Worker role, please see www.sssc.uk.com
