DevOps Support Engineer Job Description Summary This role will reside inthe group IT infrastructure team but will be integrated within an agileproject team currently developing the insurance platform for SagaServices. In this role, youll work collaboratively with softwareengineering to support, document and manage the supporting systemsrequired to actively maintain and support the development programme fromend user support to application management to instances of servermanagement calling on experience and skills for the implementationmonitoring and operational practices. The successful candidate will beexpected to own the support requirements for the programme, workingalongside the wider group IT infrastructure and operations teams, andwill be seen as the primary support resource for the programmeimplementing best practice that can be adopted across the wider Sagagroup in both production and non-live environments. The successfulcandidate will be expected to work alongside both development andinfrastructure teams alike and ensure that the system remain stable andresilient. The successful candidate will need to be able to supportmultiple work streams and have an excellent attention to detail andfocus on following through to completion. The job will provide thesuccessful candidate with the scope and opportunity to work with allareas of IT and the wider business and will allow them to grow withinthe role. Responsibilities Working as part of the technical andproject teams, the jobholder will be responsible for the support andmanagement of the platforms and services associated with the insuranceplatform project but also be expected to be able to offer technicalexperience and knowledge across the entire group IT estate in themanagement of systems, including end user support (Hardware &Software), server management, application support and change management. Understand the demonstrate the need for information security andgovernance controls and possess the ability to balance these needs withthose of the development change programmes. The post holder will alsowork with Business and project teams to enhance the systems to keep pacewith business needs. A proactive approach to issue-resolution willinvolve the jobholder in identifying issues and opportunities,identifying and implementing solutions to problems, and keeping thecompany abreast on the possibilities presented by new technologicaladvances. The role will require duties to be performed outside normalworking hours, both overnight and at weekends. The post holder will beexpected to participate in an on-call duty rota to deal with out ofhours system failures. Flexibility of supporting internet systems bothwithin and outside of hours is paramount Capability, Knowledge andExperience: o High level of demonstrable experience in supporting Linuxand Windows environments with Wintel/RedHat/Oracle Linux o Experienceworking with enterprise application vendors o Excellent relationshipwith both internal development and infrastructure teams includinginformation security and operations. o Adaptable and willing toexperiment o Ability to help define and manage own workload o Appetitefor process and system improvement o Strong focus on value and the widerbusiness environment o Knowledge of best practices and IT operations inan always-up, always-available service o Proven communication skillswith outstanding customer facing skills and the ability to communicateideas and all ranges of technical aspects and complex concepts clearlyand in plain English to all levels of the business. o In-depthunderstanding of the architecture of a large corporation and the its ITsystems, applications and business functionality, with first classknowledge and use of Windows and Microsoft systems and applications. oExcellent customer facing skills - confident in clearly and conciselyanswering queries and providing feedback to customers. o Excellenttechnical support experience, with at least 3 years experience in aDesktop Support Engineer role.
