Do you want to work alongside one of the most influential people in the OpenSource/PHP community?

Do you want to Learn and work with Exciting JavaScript tech like ReactJS / Vue JS or Angular JS?

Join an award winning Telecoms company who are embracing AWS, SOA, Microservices, as well as a modern JavaScript tech stack!

Attend Technical Meet-ups in the UK & in Europe!

The Company:

This is a fantastic opportunity to join one of the UK's largest telecommunications companies as they grow and following major investment are looking to embrace the latest technology stack - They have gained an exceptional reputation in the Telecoms industry and have won and been nominated for various awards such as 'Best Newcomer in Cloud' as well as being listed in the Top 50 fastest growing companies in the UK.

They offer a clear pathway for developers to progress, this is evident from the huge success stories within the company, including the current Development manager - starting off his career here as a Web Developer, quickly progressing to Team Lead and then Dev Manager. Following major investment, they are now looking to implement an exciting pipeline including moving to SOA using Microservices, phasing out PHP in favour of JavaScript Frameworks such as AngularJS/ ReactJS/ VueJS, and pushing development into the Cloud, specifically AWS.

The Role:

They are currently maintaining a full stack PHP/Zend application, utilising a set of APIs to expose data to their customer based PHP portals. They are looking for a PHP Developer to learn JavaScript as they make the move to a modern framework and ultimately taking on a much larger JavaScript focused role - they are kick-starting a huge project to transition their customer portals to a decoupled JavaScript frontend and want you to play a significant part in the decision making process of selecting either React JS/ Angular JS or Vue JS as the framework of choice going forward. They want this move to a more modern JavaScript framework to have an impact of making it easier to add advanced features, provide greater speed and allow API's to be publicly exposed for Customer SAAS products. Until the switch to JavaScript is complete, you will be working on maintaining the existing PHP stack to ensure the smooth transition.

Your early work will be focussed on API development in their existing PHP eCommerce platform - integrating and building new API's, suggesting improvements going forward, both in tech, in their development processes and on the core products. This will be initially as a full-stack PHP Developer with the intention of moving over to JavaScript.

What they are looking for?

Quite simple really, a PHP Developer who wants to move into a JavaScript role - you will have experience of writing Object-Oriented code, can demonstrate a genuine passion for JavaScript tech (this could be from current work and personal projects using modern JavaScript tech), experienced working with PHP Frameworks, familiar with design patterns and proven experience of unit testing your own code - having an understanding of how to improve code coverage and happy to participate in code reviews.

You will have worked on product development, adding new features, modules and functionality to existing applications. An understanding and appreciation of API development is key - this could be building them, implementing them or even maintaining them - you will feel comfortable expressing opinions around API development and understand how to make changes to them.

In preparation for the move into JavaScript they will expect you to talk intelligently about the differences between frameworks such as React JS, Vue JS & Angular JS.

They are an agile house and would expect you to come from an agile background, following agile processes including daily stand ups, 2 week sprints, committing code in a CI/CD pipeline and taking part in code reviews.

Why Join?

If you are looking for a working environment which is challenging, enjoyable and want to work with a cool development team then look no further! The Lead developer here is highly influential in the OpenSource/PHP community and regularly gives talks at local and global events - if you have been to an OpenSource meet up recently it is highly likely you may know of him! They will support you as a developer and you will be offered the chance to attend technical meet-ups, conferences, seminars in the UK and in Europe!

Aside from that, they are a very social bunch, can offer flexible working hours, annual pay reviews, discounted Gym memberships (healthy body, healthy mind), discounts on bus passes, dental plans and free fruit in the office! They encourage developers to voice opinions, loving feedback from all levels of the business and insist on keeping bureaucracy to a minimum!
