Job Purpose: The primary purpose of the role is to ensure that the high frequency low latency and trading platforms that operate are efficient, reliable and fit for purpose. As an expert in low latency systems you will manage you team of like minded technical experts within the fields of infrastructure and networks to oversee project and delivery activities that allow this global financial services institution to offer best of breed products to an ever increasing global market.Job Responsibilities:This role is primarily responsible for the engineering of server infrastructure to deliver projects for the business' Execution, Market Data and Client Connectivity platforms. You will be supporting market data experts in ensuring the platform highly available, fit for purpose and constantly evolving using data driven decisions. Be able to taken on a system that is 'slow' and make it 'fast' by holistically exploring bottlenecks within a system and being able to tune them accordingly whether that be in a disk sub system, the network stack or something in between.Lead a small team of engineers.Be a technical mentor to infrastructure operations and support the teams when needed. Person Specification: The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate excellent Criteria Experience Essential*5+ years of Linux administration - RHCE highly desirable*Proven ability to troubleshoot Kernel level systems problems*Tuning of systems based on CPU/IO/Memory profiles*Knowledge of low latency network technologies ie ChelsIO/Solarflare*Ability to interpret raw OS data eg SAR output*Knowledge of HFT/HPC compute platforms*Experience operating a geographically dispersed medium to large server estate*Good understanding of core networking concepts, including TCP, LAN/WAN protocols and datacentre architectures*Good understanding of configuration management systems eg Puppet*Experience managing a small team of engineers*ITIL frameworksDesirable*Knowledge of network monitoring tools eg Corville, ExtraHop*Knowledge of Arista Switches and Routers*Experience supporting a 24x7 environment*Experience in the financial sector QualificationsEssential*Upper Second Class (or better) degree in Computer Science or related subject or relevant industry experience*Demonstrable qualifications for linux systems engineeringSkills Essential*Strong problem solving and analytical skills *Good Scripting skills*Passion for technology and engineering robust and secure solutions*Good interpersonal skills to build and foster customer relationships*Ability to calmly handle fluctuating workloads, conflicting priorities and concurrent activities*Excellent communication skills, written and verbal*Pragmatic approach to problem solving*Equally capable and comfortable working within a team or under own guidance*Proactive self starter The JM Group is operating and advertising as an Employment Agency for permanent positions and as an Employment Business for interim/contract/temporary positions.
