Client My client a leading investment bank with global operations, is currently recruiting for a Front office application support professional to join them on a permanent basis in Birmingham. Global Markets provide front-to-back support to the production services business, which includes fixed income, foreign exchange (FX), equities and derivatives; as well as prime finance and coverage. As the Global Markets Production Support Subject Matter Expert (SME) you will work in partnership with trade floor support colleagues to manage the production environment of applications used by the Global Markets business. You will develop expertise in the applications used by one or more lines of business and take ownership of the availability and quality of service provided. Responsibilities * Support and operate the applications used by the business for trading * Identify and respond to events impacting the production environment * Manage production incidents including technical resolution and business / management communication * Determine root cause of and remediate problems identified in the production environment * Schedule and coordinate changes and releases for production applications * Actively maintain and contribute to the application knowledgebase * Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing * Collaborate with partners in the infrastructure teams (Networks, UNIX, Wintel) and application developers. * Drive continuous improvement in the environment, including monitoring, control and stability Skills * Qualified to undergraduate degree or equivalent qualifications or experience * Experience of providing application support in an enterprise environment, or a background in development or engineering will be considered * Experience of working in critical production environments * Technical background in UNIX (any flavour) and SQL * Proven track-record of problem-solving in time-sensitive situations * Provide evidence of learning agility and managing complexity in a heterogeneous, dynamic environment * An excellent communicator with skills across a variety of partners and stakeholders * A strong team player with an ability to work in a global environment * Dedicated and dependable with an ability to operate under pressure * Experienced in using monitoring and alerting technologies, e.g. Geneos, Nagios, Netcool (beneficial) * Technical knowledge of messaging technologies e.g. Java Message Service (JMS) / Latency Busters Messaging (LBM) / KDB (beneficial) * Exposure to financial services and general knowledge of the banking industry (beneficial) * Experienced in working in an ITIL-aligned support environment (beneficial)
