We require Development Engineers at Cobham Mission Systems in Wimborne to develop Air-to-Air Refuelling (AAR) equipment (wing/centreline externally mounted refuelling pods, internal fuselage mounted refuelling units) and Auxiliary Mission Equipment (air-to-air refuelling probes, weapons carriage and release systems) for a wide range of customers. These systems require many leading edge technologies to meet demanding performance and safety requirements; including: precision hydraulic and fuel systems, motor drive technologies, composite braking and actuation, avionic control systems incorporating complex electronic hardware, software and system control, monitoring and indication, aerodynamic metallic and composite structures. Due to a strong order book and increasing workload we need to add a Development Engineer to our current engineering team.

Cobham is one of the world's leading companies engaged in the development, delivery and support of leading-edge aerospace and defence systems in the air, on land and at sea. Our clients and partners trust Cobham to deliver the mission-critical technology they need, and we trust our employees to draw on their ingenuity and passion to deliver those solutions.

The successful candidate will work as part of the engineering team collating equipment and system level requirements qualification evidence in order to demonstrate compliance to customer requirements. This may involve tasks across either of the main business areas of Air to Air Refuelling and Auxiliary Mission Equipment. The Development Engineer will be expected to follow current departmental process and will be encouraged to participate in the further development of these processes. The successful candidate will work as part of an engineering team at IPT level or at product level supporting activity to demonstrate function and performance in environment.

The majority of the work will be carried out at Cobham Mission Equipment?s new purpose built engineering facility in Wimborne, Dorset. Occasional (infrequent) travel may be required.

You will be responsible for:

Testing of Systems

Auxiliary Equipment

Air to Air refuelling systems such as Probes and Pods.

Fuel systems.

In Refuelling smaller types of equipment fit into the product group of electro-mechanical equipment such as the following: fuel system, refuelling probe, fluid/fuel dynamic, weapons release, ejector seats, bomb release, missile systems, any explosive devices, pyrotechnics and canopies.

Process of working ? Start of Programme

Planning Elements

Supporting the Systems Engineer in the Bid proposal, time & cost planning for the project, Systems Requirements Capture.

Liaise with the Systems Engineers, gathering requirements documentation then collating from the customer and creating a qualification plan. That qualification plan is a justification that the Development Engineers can use to justify how they are going to achieve the requirement. When conducting the testing they will be able to refer to the qualification plan to ensure each stage is met to the customer standards and then they can verify with the customer that they are happy with the progress.

Preparing bid proposals to ensure that costing?s and timings of AAR equipment systems or Auxiliary Systems meet the qualification plans and verified by the customer.

TEST:

The Development Engineer would be required to complete the Physical Testing of Hardware and Writing Test Procedures for the AAR systems and Auxiliary Equipment.

Arranging Assets which could be hardware required or test, it could be large / small or looms or any other fixtures required for the test. Identify which test house would be best, depending on the equipment and size. Prepare plans of Action - How to do test - When to do test - Is there logistics involved and raising request accordingly.

They would also be witnessing test..

Demonstrate to the client that a clear process is been followed and to agree conformity.

Report Writing:

Collating data

Put it in concise way

Recording against requirement in DOORS (requirement gathering software.)

Typical Problems:

The Development Engineers need to determine whether the requirements from the customer are correct, if not they need to mediate with the customer and come to an agreement.

They will be responsible for finding the right test facilities to conduct the correct test determine.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities for Development Engineers include:

Customer and supplier facing responsibilities to discuss and agree qualification strategy and activity.

Compilation of development and qualification plans including functional, environmental and mechanical aspects.

Compilation of test procedures and reports.

Analysis and interpretation of test data.

Equipment and system evaluation against requirements to produce qualification statements including analysis and comparison of requirements and build standards.

Input to verification matrices at equipment, sub-system or system level to demonstrate compliance to customers.

Planning, arranging and attending test activities including control of test hardware, test support equipment, transportation and test cost and schedule.
