Infrastructure Engineer - £350 per day - In scope IR35 - DV Clearance - 6 month contract Your new company This role is part of an IT Shared Service Centre, supporting a range of Government partners in the UK and overseas, enabling them to work effectively and securely and delivering a modern IT capability based around user needs. Your new role The post holder will undertake the following main activities: In the first instance work with the programme team to assist them with their creation of architectural blueprints. Subsequently assist the team with the acquisition and build of the infrastructure environments and associated networking and cryptography and garner sufficient knowledge during these activities to bring back in house for subsequent support activity. Once live, manage and support the development, test and live production environments and associated infrastructure. What you'll need to succeed The post holder will undertake the following main activities: In the first instance work with the programme team to assist them with their creation of architectural blueprints. Once live, manage and support the development, test and live production environments and associated infrastructure. As part of the team, the responsibilities will include, but not limited to: System Administration: 1. Install new / rebuild existing servers/supporting infrastructure and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements. 2. Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures and scenario playbooks, for example environment startup/shutdown. 3. Contribute to and maintain system standards. Operations and Support: 4. Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups. 5. Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary. 6. Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary. 7. Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted parties. Manage the operations of remote, "lights out" data centres. Maintenance: 8. Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary. 9. Maintain operational, configuration, or other procedures. 10. Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning. 11. Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. The post holder will have excellent communication skills, utilising multiple methods of communication across diverse teams. East Kilbride or London with travel to other UK locations Required: HND or equivalent previous experience Demonstrable high level of "hands on" technical support experience to include: Data Centre Server Hardware - build, management and maintenance; Virtualisation Stacks - Hyper-V or VMware; Microsoft Server 2012; Microsoft Exchange, Sharepoint and Active Directory; PKI Infrastructure; Cryptography equipment; Firewall and Internet facing protection technologies; Networking, Switching & Routing technologies; Security: Successful candidates must meet the security requirements before they can be appointed. The level of security needed is DV (Developed Vetting) Desirable: ITIL V3 Foundation JUNOS vSphere/EXSi 6 Red Hat Enterprise Palo Alto F5 Networks Cisco Out of hours support as prescribed Occasional travel to site and Datacentre as necessary What you'll get in return This client benefits from an out of town location, competitive day rate and a good term initially.
