Principal Engineer - Product Verification
Would you like to play a key role in the delivery of submarine programmes for the Royal Navy? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer - Product Verification at our site in Barrow-in-Furness.
As a Principal Engineer - Product Verification, you will primarily be responsible for ensuring product design intent and safety requirements are met across the submarine. You will also act as a subject matter expert (SME) for whole boat product verification, which will entail conducting activities ranging across structural, weapons and systems.
This role will provide you with the opportunity to be involved with one of the UK's most complex, cutting edge projects, with the chance to work across the whole boat. You will also gain exposure to an extensive range of stakeholder groups and industrial partners.
Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer - Product Verification will involve:
Substantiating that the product is safe at various stages during procurement and build, including commissioning and delivery
Ensuring build and design intent conformity through verification activities, at whole boat level
Attending inspection events and participating in test groups with commissioning ensuring accountability
Assisting in the conduct of design and safety classification configuration checks
Assisting in setting up product verification plans, including procurement related activities
Supporting activities requiring input and support as part of configuration checks
Your skills and qualifications as a Principal Engineer - Product Verification:
Degree qualified in STEM related discipline or HND with demonstrable experience within complex environments (or equivalent experience)
Experience in product engineering design
Demonstrable experience working towards safety and assurance standards
Demonstrable experience gained from a defence or nuclear background
Evidence capture & risk analysis experience

Maritime - Submarines
Our Submarines business has been safely delivering world class submarines to the UK Royal Navy for more than a century.
The Astute class will equip the Royal Navy with its largest and most capable generation of attack submarines. We are responsible for the design, build, test and commissioning of these state-of-the-art vessels. In total, seven boats will make up the fleet, each weighing a mighty 7,400 tonnes.
Dreadnought is the successor to the Vanguard class of nuclear deterrent submarines. We will deliver four submarines to the Royal Navy, with the first submarine entering service in the early 2030s. Dreadnought is widely considered to be one of the world's most complex engineering challenges.
