Cognitive Geology is one of Scotland’s most recent and exciting startups with huge ambitions and proven success to date. Cognitive Geology was founded by end users from major operators, grown tired of forcing commercial software to work the way we needed it to. We do one thing, extremely well: we build petroleum geoscience software. This niche market, worth over $4.5 Billion per annum, and serviced by a handful of vendors, is ripe for disruption. Our technologies respond to a fundamental change in our customer’s methods of managing oilfield investment uncertainty – replacing workflows 30 years out of date – and the customers love it. We are rapidly growing as a team and are looking for an experienced Financial Controller to join us. Ideally we are looking for someone full time. However, dependant on experience, we may consider part time. We are a startup. Work is exciting, the deadlines can be tight, everyone pulls together and we are building a culture which focuses on personal and professional growth. As a company we know how your working life can impact you and we want to ensure that being part of our company is a great experience. Key responsibilities Develop reports and KPI information for presentation to senior management, the Board of Directors, the Finance Committee and shareholders. Assist in the preparation of the annual Business Plan, preparing the supporting P&L, Balance Sheet and Cashflow projections. Review all financial plans and budgets regularly. Prepare monthly management accounts and quarterly financial forecasts. Work with technical and management teams to develop and review realistic cash flow projections. Manage and keep up-to-date the company secretarial records and share option schemes. Manage and liaise with external accountants, ensuring a smooth flow of information and deliverables for statutory, international (including USA) taxation and R&D tax credits. Manage reporting deadlines for internal and external deliverables. Run employee payrolls Ensure that all financial transactions are properly recorded, filed, and reported. Including payments and cash control, supplier administrative work; including statement reconciliations and employee expense claims. Qualifications and experience required: Must hold current ACA or ACCA qualification. Solid commercial post-qualified experience, ideally consisting of a mix of experience within both an accountancy practice and a trading company's finance department.
