SSE?s in-house Legal team has recently been nominated for a number of industry awards and it is recognised as a market leader in the provision of legal services for a FTSE 100 business. An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Legal team for a Commercial Solicitor, specialising in Data Protection Law to be based at our Reading or Glasgow office. Data Protection is a fast moving area of law and with the General Data Protection Regulation coming into effect next year is a pivotal area of law for SSE and other businesses.
You will provide sound legal and commercial advice and support to SSE?s business ensuring compliance with data protection and communications laws and promoting a culture of good data protection. You will report to SSE?s Head of Data Protection within the Legal Services team.
Your work will involve advising drafting data protection policies and procedures, drafting and reviewing privacy clauses, advising on cyber and data breach incidents, and advising on marketing campaigns with a view to ensuring compliance with the Data Protection Act, the Privacy and Electronic Regulations, the General Data Protection Regulation and other information laws. You will also be involved preparing and delivering training at all levels of the company and supporting SSE?s data protection champions.
To be successful in this role, you should be a qualified solicitor with 5 to 6 years PQE. The ideal candidate will have a good knowledge of data protection law and practice but candidates with related knowledge and a strong skill set in commercial law will also be considered. Internal candidates welcome.

Strong drafting, communication and interpersonal skills are essential for this role. You should also be enthusiastic, self-motivated and able to work in a team.
