Head of Engineering Projects - Comms and Navigation Systems: Major Defence Engineering Organisation is currently looking for an experienced Senior Engineering Manager for a role of Head of Engineering Projects at their site in Southampton.

Head of Engineering Projects - Comms and Navigation Systems Responsibilities:
* Accountable for project delivery to VP S&PT/ CNI and VP Engineering EW: delivery of the overall engineering solution on time, to cost and performance across all Projects.
* Accountable for execution of Engineering Management governance in line with policies: LCM, PLC, PCRBs and overall engineering plans in place showing key milestones and interdependencies are created and maintained for all projects within the sector(s).
* Provision of well managed engineering teams under the leadership of a number of Project Engineering Manager/Leads
* Accountable for the technical solution for both the contract delivery and business winning proposals through a team of chief engineers and SDAs with responsibility for design certification
* Ensure for each IPT that the compliance of the design solution against the total requirement, including customer requirements, acceptance, legislative and contractual requirements and product safety requirements is managed.
* Chair engineering Bid Reviews and Engineering Design Reviews.
* Ensure via effective engagement with the site Heads of Function that resources and demonstrated performance are managed
* Ensure metrics are in place to evaluate improvement performance.
* Implementation of Core/Non-Core strategy in line with Capability/ Technology Route maps
* Personally coach and mentor other engineers.

Head of Engineering Projects - Comms and Navigation Systems Qualifications and Experience:
* Demonstrable experience and success within their previous role.
* Track record of successfully leading large project / functional teams in order to meet strategic and delivery objectives. (e.g. SPI/CPI targets met, milestone performance achieved, etc.)
* Record of successfully managing IPT delivery across all phases of the Product Lifecycle
* Proven success in stakeholder management around organisational change.
* Success in mentoring and coaching in order to grow engineering excellence within the business
* Successful management of the Engineering cost base ensuring financial targets are met.
* Creation of Engineering capability plans with measureable objectives in order to drive increased productivity, improve utilisation and sustain Engineering skill base for the future.
* Proven experience of representing the company at a senior level with customers and at industry forums
* Ability to lead and challenge the multidisciplinary team to develop the concept, detailed design, transition to production, and support of business products.
* Detailed knowledge of the LCM principals (Design Reviews, etc.) for the product. Leadership and motivation of all staff within the IPT
* Ability to effectively manage people issues in a professional and fair manner.
* An ability to identify efficiency improvements in the delivery of engineering excellence across engineering and the skills to drive change through strong management.
* Knowledge of the Engineering Lifecycle with experience chairing Bid reviews, Design reviews and assessing Phase Review deliverables on complex projects.
* Experience in chairing estimate reviews with a clear understanding of the cost drivers in the delivery of engineering excellence into product IPTs with proven experience as a member of the PCRB review panel.
* Experience of managing the interface with Engineering and other key functions such as Project Management, Procurement, Quality, M&SC, HR and Finance
* Degree qualified in an Engineering Discipline

The successful candidate will be required to achieve full SC clearance for this role!!!!
