RF Systems Engineer
This role requires an experienced engineer to work with the IPT Chief Technologist, Engineering manager and development team in a Design and Development environment. The successful candidate will ideally have a minimum of ten years of experience in ECM/EW/Communications and demonstrates good knowledge of working in Systems engineering developing communications products with strong element of RF, Software and FPGA firmware. A good understanding of Software configured ECM, Radios and waveform development is desirable. The successful candidate will be based at the Basildon site and will have the opportunity to work within a diverse and exciting growth area, which involves all aspects of our ECM and EW business. Work in a highly demanding development environment to develop current and future products within an integrated team. Interface with customers and end users to deliver operational capabilities and support our customers and end-users achieve operational excellence. The candidate will be involved in all phases across the complete systems engineering lifecycle, which includes requirements capture, system architecture design of both Hardware and software, and verification and validation activities. There will also be opportunities to provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) support to Sales & Marketing and also personnel delivering training solutions to primarily home and international Military personnel.
Skills, qualifications & knowledge
Essential A degree-level qualification in a relevant discipline. Excellent RF and microwave design experience Demonstrable experience of the systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements management, system design process including system and sub-system specification, and product verification and validation. Good understanding of RF transceiver designs Experience with modelling tools such as MATLAB, Simulink etc. Ability to produce clear and concise technical documentation. Ability to demonstrate and apply system-level thinking including Hardware, Software A proven track record in schedule adherence and achieving high standards. Experience of design governance and design integrity processes.
Desirable Experience of working with requirements engineering tools (e.g. DOORS). Experience of PC-based / Real-Time software development. Knowledge of new and existing ECM systems and products. Knowledge of the tools, data and/or processes used by customers for developing ECM waveform. Ability to work under pressure such as experience of supporting dynamic trials scenarios. Knowledge of technology and techniques deployed in ECM Products. Ergonomics associated with body-worn, portable, vehicle and fixed platforms. Interoperability issues and mitigation techniques between ECM and Communication. Able to work with minimum direction/supervision on complex tasks. Confidence and ability to challenge/respond to technical/process issues. Demonstrate Team leadership.
Developing Requirement specification, architectural design, and verification and validation of Software Defined ECM products and systems, covering areas such as signal analysis and waveform development. Developing and applying your knowledge of systems engineering to undertake and support various tasks and activities across the lifecycle, delivering to agreed performance targets within cost and schedule. Working with community of Engineers in developing practical skills in designing Communications hardware, GUI and Real-Time software for ECM applications. Working with Modelling and Analysis tools such as MATLAB/Simulink to develop efficient Algorithms and waveform techniques. Working closely with software and hardware engineers to manage design changes and solve problems on complex systems. Completing tasks in accordance with appropriate processes and procedures to a high standard. Use technical expertise to solve problems, generate ideas and be pro-active within the IPT. Support Sales & Marketing team in technical bid preparation customer technical liaison and customer demonstration and trials. Work with Project Engineering Managers to estimate NRE and through life costs Review and challenge engineering community to deliver efficient and accurate estimation. Analysis of current internal and competitive products and solutions, and propose alternative solutions employing latest technology to gain technical/cost/SWaP advantage.
