Application Support Analyst

A Surrey based University has a requirement for an Application Support Analyst to join a team that provides development support to business focused, and predominantly 3rd party applications. This role forms part of a very large IT function that is about to receive a multi-million-pound investment and is critical for the identification of user needs, the development of additional features and functionality, and providing user support.

In this Application Support Analyst role, the successful candidate will have the following responsibilities and objectives:

  • Participating all aspects of the Software Development Lifecycle – requirements gathering and definition, development, testing and support.
  • Providing 2/3rd line user support. This will involve replicating user incidents, investigating root cause, making coding changes, testing and release
  • Ongoing and continuous development of existing applications. Liaising between users/stakeholders and software vendors
  • System and project documentation

To be suitable for this Application Support Analyst requirement, suitable candidates require the following skills and experience:

  • Experience in a similar Application Support Analyst role, this could be either in an internal facing role or within a role that is externally facing for a software vendor
  • Experience with SQL – this will need to include interrogating SQL databases, table changes, triggers and some understanding SSRS and related reporting tools
  • Programming languages. Experience with scripting and development languages/frameworks. I.e. HTML, CSS, JavaScript and .Net, Java or PHP
  • Strong customer/stakeholder facing skills. This includes translating complex terminology into simple terms and speaking to system users to identify and translate their requirements
  • Strong system documentation skills
  • Ideally an understanding, or some previous exposure to the ITIL service management framework
  • A related degree or professional qualification
