Principal Engineer (Command & Control Engineering Lead)

Would you like to work within our Combat Systems Engineering team, delivering cutting edge physical design solutions across multiple Submarine platforms? We currently have a vacancy for a Principal Engineer at our site in Broad Oak, Portsmouth.

As a Principal Engineer and Engineering Lead you will manage a small team in the development of Submarine Combat Systems, from Requirements level, through system design and supplier selection to providing on-board support during sea trials.

This role will provide you with the chance to work on the development of the Command and Control sub system in support of a flotilla -wide upgrade programme. You will be fully supported in your professional development with the chance for excellent career progression opportunities in the future.

Your main responsibilities as a Principal Engineer (Command & Control Engineering Lead) will involve:

Leading a small team of engineers overseeing the development of submarine system technology updates and design improvements, co-ordinating engineering activities within an integrated schedule

Liaising and supporting Project Management teams and BAE Technical Authorities to deliver an updated design to schedule

Liaising with internal and external customers to ensure system requirements are adequately supported through planning, installation, and integration along with trial activities

Developing and integrating the project trials programme and management of trials including production of trial technical proposals in response to tasking

Support to the Ministry of Defence (MoD) customer obtaining approval to embody equipment by providing evidence for all physical and functional aspects including EMC, shock, intrinsic and dynamic safety, toxicity reports

Providing realistic programme status, identifying problem areas and implementing agreed recovery plans

Your skills and qualifications as a Principle Engineer (Weapon Thread Trials Support Engineering Lead):

Essential

Management experience in leading small to mid-size teams

Ability to work at a Systems level and apply Systems Engineering practices

Understanding of the full engineering life cycle including requirements, design, testing, and acceptance

Knowledge and some experience of bid processes

Experience of creating and managing tests and trials for complex systems

Ability to work with a diverse stakeholder group, both internal and external

Degree level qualification (or equivalent level of experience)

Desirable

Experience in submarine or surface command and control systems

Model based systems engineering

Experience in submarine engineering
