Ford & Stanley - The Rail Recruitment Experts are recruiting a Head of Engineering for a prestigious rail organisation based in the East Midlands.

The Opportunity

Our client specialises in engineering work on railway traction and rolling stock to ensure successful overhaul and maintenance solutions for their customers. They are seeking a Head of Engineering to join their rapidly expanding team to support their mission in becoming customers' first choice in fleet support and delivery. This role will encompass both strategic and tactical responsibility to ensure customer expectations are exceeded from a quality cost and delivery perspective.

Location (s): Derby

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Review customer technical and engineering standards
  • Influence change across all delivery focused areas of operations to meet strategic objectives and goals
  • Lead on complex engineering proposals and projects
  • Create and implement best practice engineering quality vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve business performance
  • Evaluate the engineering and quality challenges faced by the business and take action to mitigate risks and develop opportunities
  • Responsible for Engineering standards in the operations function and quality of service delivery, striving to encourage best in class products and business practices to deliver and exceed the customer's expectations
  • Ensure health, safety and environmental issues are prioritised and facilitate, direct and drive implementation of
  • Work with the technical support and operations teams to turn customer maintenance and overhaul specifications into working instructions and block cards
  • Support on the preparation of technical and contract documentation for issue and analysis of tenders
  • Ensure best practice reporting, data collection and asset management processes are implemented and maintained consistently throughout the production department
  • Approve modification instructions and vehicle change instruction

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will an experienced chartered engineer or working towards Chartership with a strong background in rolling stock / rail. You will be joining a fast-paced environment whereby you will be sitting in a senior level position so your decisive natural along with key negotiation skills will ensure the organisation's strategy plans are implemented effectively.

Essentials

  • BEng / MEng in any Engineering discipline
  • Chartered status / Working towards becoming, a Chartered Member of an engineering professional body
  • Demonstrable experience of leading an engineering function with a proven track record in strategic engineering leadership delivering effective engineering strategies, policies, processes and systems
  • Knowledge of engineering process control and assurance systems
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing
  • Engineering experience or experience of working in an engineering or similar high-risk environment
  • Rail or rolling stock experience preferred but not essential
