Customer Solution Architect

Purpose of the role

To shape a customer?s IT architecture and strategy, ensure that they understand the broad our value proposition, and to identify and drive from a technical perspective opportunities within those accounts that span the our portfolio. The CSA will engage, and manage as a virtual team, Customer Solutions Consultants and other design resources as appropriate to develop specific opportunities. The CSA will work closely with sales management to develop account plans and strategies, and will be proactively engaged in sales forecasting to facilitate this process.

Key Accountabilities

  • To work with sales and sales management, either in a nominated market vertical or against a set of nominated accounts, to identify a small number of key accounts where the potential exists to influence and shape the customer?s IT architecture and strategy

  • To assist in the development of an account strategy and contact plan for those target accounts aimed at raising the awareness and credibility of our value proposition and developing opportunities across a broad range of solution areas

  • To build a comprehensive understanding of the business strategy, challenges & opportunities of the customers to which the CSA is aligned

  • To assist the sales team with the technical qualification of a new business opportunity or prospect, or with a complex requirement within an existing customer account, to ensure that it aligns with our target markets, portfolio, delivery and operations capability

  • To engage with the customer at a senior IT/IT Director level as a trusted advisor, to position our value propositions and to help develop a broad, integrated cloud & communications strategy, roadmap and reference architecture

  • To identify specific opportunities within the account, engaging solutions consultants and other pre-sales resources as appropriate to develop solutions and tailor products which meet these requirements

  • To provide input to forecast and pipeline management from a technical perspective

  • To take overall ownership and accountability for all solutions and associated costs within their nominated accounts, managing a virtual team of solutions consultants and other resources to provide a cohesive, integrated solution

  • Consideration that changes to service, process, organisation, operating model and other aspects may be required in addition to technology components, and solutions must demonstrate how agreed requirements (such as automation of business processes) are met, any requirements which are not fully met or, and any options or considerations which require a business decision

  • The design and communication of high-level structures to enable and guide the design and development of integrated solutions that meet current and future business needs. This may include architectural documentation, journey maps, return on investment models, and functional component specifications to enable High Level Designs to be produced

  • Sound commercial awareness to support commercial finance in the development of an appropriate commercial model for their solutions. Responsible for solution sign off within sales governance processes

  • To maintain a high degree of awareness of technical and industry market trends and technology areas related to those that customers may wish to adopt, in order to offer both up to date and impartial consultative advice

Measure of Success/Key Performance Indicators

  • Effective development of nominated accounts, extending breadth of our solutions provided, visibly influencing the IT architecture and strategy, and growth of the account P&L
  • Absorbs complex technical information and communicates effectively at all levels to both technical and non-technical audiences, demonstrates the ability to build confidence
  • Demonstrates clear leadership and the ability to influence and persuade. Successfully motivates virtual teams to produce coherent, integrated solutions
  • Effectively assesses, evaluates, documents and communicates risk
  • Understands the impact and benefits of new technologies, including demonstrating how they have kept their skills up to date and maintained industry awareness
  • Has a broad understanding of all aspects of IT and our portfolio. Able to fully articulate our value proposition
  • Understands and communicates the role and impact of IT in the customer organisation and promotes compliance with relevant legislation
  • Produces high quality, articulate and accurate design documentation, artefacts and responses. These should be right first time, with no components incorrectly specified or omitted, and can be delivered by us within the costs provided
  • Is organised, works well under pressure, sets realistic expectations and meets agreed deadlines. Effectively escalates issues when appropriate, and proactively reports progress on activities
  • Can demonstrate that they have expanded the number of relationships in target organisations

Specialist Competencies / Core Skills

  • Extensive experience of designing service led propositions, familiarity and understanding of ITIL v3.
  • A strong technical background across a broad range of telecommunications products aligned with the strategic needs of us.
  • Experience aligning solutions with Legal, Commercial, Financial and Security Policies and Standards (e.g. PCI, FCA, SO etc)
  • Familiarity with appropriate delivery methodologies ? e.g. RUP, Agile, Waterfall
  • Understanding of TOGAF, Zachman or other architecture framework
  • Experience of building, managing and motivating virtual teams successfully to deliver coherent solutions.
  • Diligence and attention to detail
  • Strong knowledge of industry trends and developments across the portfolio
