Key to this is identifying and developing technologies that are not currently part of our core portfolio. At this moment in time, this activity is aligned to research in the controls, cyber security and CAV area.

We are putting together a cross functional team with objective of identifying opportunities and bringing them to commercial success. As part of this highly creative team we are looking for a Lead Engineer who can provide the technical leadership in these disruptive technology areas. This is an excellent opportunity for the right person to develop the position with the potential to become a Global Technical Expert in these new technology areas

By its nature the environment is creative, entrepreneurial, fast moving, unpredictable. Each initiative will have the characteristics of a business startup, with development taking place in a self-contained research culture, but within the structure and framework that is part of being in a PLC.

Key Responsibilities

The Lead Engineer will be responsible for the engineering execution of a range of disruptive technology research programmes. They are also expected to support the commercialisation of these technologies working with the business development team.

Your main tasks and responsibilities will include:

Provide engineering oversight and direction across the programme portfolio
Monitor technical risks and assist in the formulation of risk mitigation strategies
Interface with Engineering Leadership to ensure the adoption of best practice and company standards
Work closely with the strategic management team to enhance technology roadmaps
Build and sustain relationships with customers and partners to understand and communicate their priorities
Provide technical direction for proposed solutions, including optimum approaches to development, engineering, interfacing, integration and testing, documentation, supplier specifications
Liaising with project stakeholders at all levels to collect input into project direction and key decisions and to communicate results and outcomes
Building a community of relevant team members and stakeholders around each new business initiative
The role will involve some travel, both UK and possibly international.


The ideal candidate will have:

Experience of successfully leading research projects
Experience of a variety of engineering skills but with a significant experience in control technology
A broad systems engineering approach
Strong interpersonal and communications skills
Strong collaborative skills with an ability to break down and remove barriers
An inquisitive nature interested in researching new ideas and technologies
A self-starting, tenacious personality
Experience working with commercial and academic partners and institutions
Excellent analytical, trouble shooting and problem-solving skills
Strong business acumen with an ability to think strategically
Experience interfacing with customers including conducting meetings with customer and management representatives
