We have an exciting opportunity for a passionate and skilled Lead Java Developer to join our ground breaking real-time payments processing engine. Working in a Fintech start-up type environment within an established 140 manned company, you will be working in a diverse and highly skilled team who enjoy life and producing great software. We are at an exciting time in the products 2-year history and in advanced stages of several large commercial deals hence we need talented individuals who want to come and join the team taking that journey to the next level.

Responsibilities:

  • Design software using a variety of technologies/tools including: Java 8, Akka, Mongo, MQ, Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes, VMWare, AWS/cloud, CI tool chain, Maven, Jenkins, GIT, Cucumber and SOAPui
  • Develop high quality code for a highly available, transactional instant payments solution
  • Write automated feature tests, unit tests and integration tests
  • Break down, analyse and elaborate User Stories together with the Product Owner
  • Be part of a self-organizing Agile Team and participate in Scrum Ceremonies (e.g. help to demonstrate/review or plan work)
  • Be part of a Kaizen culture: work with members of the wider team to identify sources of variance, bottlenecks and waste and help implement process and behaviour changes to constantly reduce/mitigate those

Required Experience:

  • Deep Java 8 skills
  • Good working knowledge of Akka (and appreciation of reactive programming principles)
  • Demonstrable experience building, deploying, and maintaining highly concurrent and highly available/distributed systems, ideally using Java, Akka and Spring
  • Experience with design patterns and producing low level software designs
  • Ideally from a software house background
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Strong experience writing code using TDD
  • Experience in writing BDD tests using Cucumber
  • Experience with DevOps tools and processes, ideally Linux, Jenkins, Maven and Git
  • Experience working in self-organizing teams; a can-do attitude, proactive mindset
  • Experience working in an Agile environment

Desired Experience:

  • A developed appreciation for the global payments industry and standards, including experience of leading the delivery of specific Capital Markets or Banking Payment solutions, in areas such as BACS, Faster Payments, SEPA, SWIFT and mobile payments
