If youre interested in the world of finance, and enjoy thinking strategically and challenging assumptions, then this could be the perfect place to start your career.

On our Risk, Conduct and Restructuring pathway, youll discover how risk is managed across our business, and help us to embed controls that are robust and responsive to change.

Your integrity and inquisitive mind-set will be crucial when it comes to providing the assurance and challenge that will keep our business secure and our customers safe.

About the programme

The aim of this two year programme is to equip you with the skills and experiences youll need to become a leading risk and conduct professional.

Its crucial that we understand the risks we face and manage them responsibly. Youll learn how we do this through our three lines of defence model, and gain experience in areas like credit risk, stress testing, regulatory affairs and operational risk. Youll be putting our core values into practice, and working with others to shape a robust and proactive culture of risk management.

Youll be rewarded with a starting salary of £27,000, depending on location. On top of your salary youll also have access to our flexible benefits package.

After a full induction, the programme is structured around four, six month rotations, each based in different areas of Risk, Conduct and Restructuring. Throughout, the focus will be on promoting the spirit of challenge and intellectual curiosity, which will be crucial to your development as a future risk management expert.

Over the course of the programme, you can look forward to:

At the end of the two years, we hope to see you join us in a permanent role. Well be supporting your career development throughout, but particularly during your last rotation well focus on what roles you could step into next.

This programme would be excellent preparation for a whole range of career paths, and some of the possible next roles to move into would include:

Conduct AdvisorOperational Risk ManagerCredit Risk Analyst
Supporting you

We pride ourselves on the professional support we offer our graduates, and the friendly, down to earth community our graduates have shaped themselves.

Before you start, youll be paired with a ‘buddy (a graduate already on the programme) wholl be there to help you get settled, answer any questions, and share their experiences.

Youll also be assigned a Graduate Coach and a Placement Manager. Your Graduate Coach will be there to provide support throughout the programme, and will work with you to create a personal Capability Plan; your Placement Manager will provide rotation specific support, and will change with each placement. Together, theyll help you reflect on your progress, develop your career, and build your professional network.

For a fuller picture of how youll progress through the programme and the support youll receive at each stage, check out the Learning Journey below.

Induction

This will include meeting your buddy and support team, getting to know your fellow graduates, and taking part in an in-depth induction period, which will give you a broad understanding of how RBS works, our values, and our goals.

Youll hear from leaders across our business and be brought up to speed on key topics like our customers, bank structure, entrepreneurship, risk and control, technology and digital innovation.

Rotations

After the induction, youll begin your first rotation. Youll be assigned a business area, placement manager and team in our Risk function and be immersed in their work for 6 months.

For the remaining rotations youll have time to discuss options with your support team and apply to the areas that interest you. The final selection will depend on both your motivations and the business needs.

The scale and diversity of RBS means youll benefit from an excellent range of placement options. The overall aim of the rotation system is to give you exposure to the full breadth of work we do. So, wherever you go, variety is key.

Qualifications

As you progress through each rotation youll be able to take advantage of a comprehensive suite of learning and training options to develop the technical and business expertise youll need.

This will involve undertaking a formal qualification, which could be the ICA diploma, Financial Risk Manager Certification or CISI.

Community Project

During the programme youll take part in a community project with a team of fellow graduates. This involves linking up with a charitable organisation and developing and delivering a solution to support their work.

Youll have the chance to participate in a fund raising competition with other teams, and present your project to a panel of senior managers. Its a great opportunity to contribute to a valuable cause and put your entrepreneurial skills to the test!

Future capability plan

In your final rotation youll discuss career plans with your support team, so youll be ready for the transition to a permanent role. The decisions you make here wont be spur of the moment – theyll be the result of long standing discussion, and a carefully crafted Future Capability Plan that runs throughout the entire programme.

From start to finish, this plan will empower you to develop your talents and tailor your own learning journey, while covering the core themes which are central to our business success. It will form the basis of discussions with your support team, and incorporate formal and self-led learning.

About you

Youll need to be on course for, or already have achieved, a 2:1 in your degree.

Were a varied function, and you dont need to be studying a particular subject to succeed here. But we will be looking out for people who can demonstrate:

An inquisitive and independent mind-set, with the desire to bring new ideas forwardStrong analytic and problem solving skillsThe ability to build great working relationships and give professional challengeA meticulous eye for detail and a good sense of judgementThe ability to learn quickly and adapt to new challenges
If youre interested in the changing world of finance and how its regulated and controlled, this would be an excellent programme to apply to.
