Our electricity distribution and transmission networks carry electricity to over 3.7 million homes and businesses across the north of the Central Belt of Scotland and also Central Southern England and the skills of our operational staff are essential to keep the lights on. With this in mind we are now looking for a Cable Jointing Instructor based in Thatcham.

You will be responsible for delivering instruction on practical skills and assessment for the full range of Cable Jointing competencies, underpinning theoretical knowledge and Operational Authorisation Rules for trainees and apprentices. You will also be delivering training and assessment for experienced Cable Jointers as part of the craft refresher programme. Your responsibilities will extend to preparing and developing training programmes to ensure that the learning needs of trainees are met. You will provide support, guidance and encouragement to create a safe operational working environment.

To be successful in this role, you should have a strong knowledge and operational background and experience jointing a full range of LV, HV and ideally EHV cables on distribution networks. You should be able to provide demonstrations to trainees in jointing techniques and be authorised for live working and switching operations on low voltage distribution networks.

You should have strong communication, organisation and team working skills while being comfortable liaising with staff and customers at various levels. Qualifications to instruct and assess is a requirement of the role, however, training will be provided (Level 3 Award in Education and Training and TAQA Assessor Qualification or equivalent).

In return, we can offer you a competitive salary package in a position which has excellent routes for career progression within the SSE Group. You will also enjoy an attractive benefits package, including pension, share plans, a generous leave entitlement (with options to purchase additional leave), reductions on energy, phone and broadband bills, plus a host of other rewards and lifestyle benefits. As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from everyone, and value diversity in our workforce. We will consider part time and/or flexible working arrangements for this role.
