Data Architect - Data Modelling
Data Architect / Southend-on-Sea / 4 Months Contract / 550 to 600 GBP (Per Day)

The Data Architect role requires the individual to understand the needs of various scrum teams. To understand both business and systems documentation and be able to translate between the two. To be able to develop key development artefacts, such as data models, data mapping documents and the maintenance of data dictionaries. The role may include mentoring and the management of problems and issues for the team, to ensure they can deliver their agreed deliverables on time, within budget and to the specified quality. The post holder will be expected to work closely with Architects, Developers, Testers and other IT specialists and with People Managers, Product Owners and Delivery Managers and Requirements Analysts in their projects.
Main duties and deliverables:
? Developing DA deliverables such as: data models; data mapping documents requirement responses; user stories.
? Leading any DA activity
? Facilitating workshops
? Attending project governance and progress forums as required
? Working with the Delivery Manager to ensure project information is timely and accurate for reporting
? Working closely with the business reps to provide visibility of delivery progress and access to suitable acceptance and sign off meetings.
? Agreeing the goals and deliverables for development activity
? Notifying the Project Manager of analysis delivery time scales and resource commitments
? Identifying analysis risks and dependencies and managing these effectively
? Escalating risks and issues to the appropriate owner including the project manager and business representative.
? Identifying relevant project stakeholders and ensuring they are appropriately engaged with the project.
Successful DA candidates will primarily be responsible for:
? Perform analysis to produce Logical Data Models.
? Perform physical database design for projects to produce physical data models for Oracle DBMS. (including DDL and DML scripts)
? Mentor and coach in-house staff, transferring skills and experience.
? XSD Creation.
Additional responsibilities will include:
? Gather and review data related information for existing source systems to produce ?AS-IS? source system data models.
? Report to Data Analysis Team Leader and Technical Project Management on a routine and exception basis.
? Contribute to Data Analysis Best Practice.
Candidates will be expected to:
? Lead technical staff on data related activities within projects
? Define transformation rules for ETL and EAI environments.
? Apply and promote established departmental data standards and data modelling guidelines.
Candidates will require the following must have skills:
- Experience in a performing quality analysis in a data architecture environment working on a large IT change Programme
- Extensive data modelling experience using relevant tools to develop data related products
- Database design and maintenance
- Extensive data mapping experience, defining the data structures at one source and mapping it to another, detailing any transformations that are to occur
- Interpreting of Business Requirements and identifying the data elements necessary to support those requirements
- Experience investigating reference data requirements
- Maintaining data quality across all products
Desirable skills include:

? Excellent communication skills with Technical and non-Technical staff.
? Ability to develop and understand SQL to required standards.
? Excellent planning, control, time management and personal organisation.
? Analysis and decision making.
? Maintaining good relationships with Technical and Business representatives.

? Working with XML.
Outstanding knowledge of:
? Logical level data modelling (over 3 years working experience).
? Physical database design for Oracle Transactional databases (over 3 years working experience). Some Data Warehouse Design knowledge is beneficial.
? Data analysis skills, working with business analysts, domain experts and business users.
? Working on an Agile project within a scrum team
Very strong knowledge of:
? At least one of the main data modelling tools (ideally PowerDesigner).
? Entity-Relationship modelling (in depth experience required).
? UML Class Diagrams design (in depth experience required).
? XML Schema design
Desirable to have knowledge of:
? Data migration and data ETL and EAI project experience including transformation rule definition.
Candidates will be required to have current data related working experience of:
? Interacting with DBA personnel.
? Working with business and technical team members and external staff as part of a large multi-skilled project team.
? Working to deadlines within budget.
? Mentoring, coaching and skills transfer.
? Multiple, co-dependent projects, within a shared architecture.
And in the following environments:
o N-tier, component-based e-commerce solutions (J2EE) with legacy integration.
o Solutions using middleware integration (EAI/ETL) and off-the-shelf packages.
o e-Commerce solutions and integration to legacy systems/technologies.
o Configuration management (preferably using Merant Dimensions).
