Job Title: Senior Communications & Marketing Officer

Service: Business Development Team

Responsible to: Business Development Manager

Salary: £20,978 - £24,415 pro rata per annum

Status: Part time, 18.75 hours per week

Job Purpose Summary:

  • Implement communications and marketing projects within the organisational strategy
  • Coach and supervise short-term communications and marketing volunteers and interns
  • Demonstrate the impact of communications and marketing projects

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Support the publication of all e-communication and all information therein, ensuring it is up-to-date, complete, accurate and reliable at all times
  • Create content for external communications, including social media and press releases
  • Support the production, formatting, assembly, distribution and feedback for all internally-produced marketing material
  • Liaise with external design companies as required in the creation of externally-produced material
  • Develop and refine a programme for internally seconded workers to generate and publish social media content, in line with the marketing plan
  • Point of contact for interns and volunteers undertaking specific marketing projects
  • Support fundraising initiatives and projects
  • Produce management information reports and ensure databases are fit for purpose
  • Ensure communications procedures and tasks are properly documented, and develop a library of content

General office duties

  • Assist with general administrative tasks
  • Provide back-up to colleagues as required.

Involvement and Advocacy

  • The post will not normally have regular direct contact with the people we support, but the post holder will be aware of the aims of the organisation and work towards achieving them

Communicating, Networking and Joint Working

  • Communicate effectively throughout the company and with community, commercial, voluntary and statutory organisations
  • Assist with taking telephone calls and forwarding messages in the office


  • Through discussion with the line manager in Joint Reviews and Appraisal, identify and agree your annual objectives, personal training plan and development needs. Plan for these to be achieved within agreed timescales
  • Learn what is necessary to carry out the responsibilities of this post in assisting the company to achieve its objectives
  • Take on areas of specialist expertise and keep up-to-date in the job's area of work

Person Specification - Communications & Marketing Officer

  • Experience of undertaking marketing and communications projects to completion
  • Able to work confidently, accurately and to use your own initiative
  • Able to deliver projects within a given framework and timescale
  • Understand the impact of communications and marketing systems within a complex organisation
  • Ability to communicate effectively via different media with people with different levels of understanding
  • Ability to present information in a concise, clear manner to an individual or team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Team player with experience of coaching enthusiastic, but less experienced, colleagues
  • Assertive and confident when working across reporting lines
  • Professional telephone manner
  • Able to build good working relationships
  • Ability to write clearly and to produce material for wide distribution
  • Able to adapt the style to the purpose and audience of each piece of written work
  • Ability to plan and prioritise multiple projects and deliverables simultaneously in a proactive manner; managing the expectations of managers and peers
  • Excellent working knowledge and experience of the Microsoft Office suite and Adobe Creative Cloud Applications
  • Qualified to degree level in communications or marketing (or a related subject) or at least two years' relevant experience
  • Reliable, consistent, focused and flexible in both outlook and approach
  • Ability to think logically and to be proactive
  • Good understanding of the importance of confidentiality and the ability to respect this in practice in relation to people supported and colleagues
  • Understanding and acceptance of company's values and the ability to put these into practice in day-to-day working
