The Wales Audit Office is looking for graduates from all degree disciplines. Successful applicants are supported to achieve an internationally recognised ICAEW accountancy qualification in addition to gaining knowledge and experience in various aspects of our financial and performance audit work.

Working with a number of teams across the Wales Audit Office, you will have opportunities to gain knowledge and experience in various aspects of our financial and performance audit work.

In addition, our Graduate Programme offers the unique opportunity to undertake secondments; this could be internally or across the wider Public Sector and to other publicly funded organisations. With Offices in Cardiff, Swansea and Abergele we cover the whole of Wales and as a member of audit staff you will be expected to travel to various client offices.

While the ability to communicate in Welsh is not an essential requirement for all trainees, we do consider it to be essential for a small number of the roles. Those applicants who are Welsh speakers will need have the ability to communicate effectively in Welsh, both verbally and in writing, as well as understand and interpret Welsh documents. As we conduct the majority of our work through the medium of English, the exercises used within our assessment process will also be conducted in English. However we can provide assessment exercise instructions in Welsh. If you wish for the interview elements of the process to be conducted through the medium of Welsh, please let us know and appropriate arrangements will be put in place.

Stage 1: online application
We will review your application responses to the 3 mandatory questions to see if you have shown you have the potential, strengths and experience alongside a strong academic record.
If your answers meet our essential criteria and demonstrate the skills and competencies that we‘re looking for you will be invited to our assessment centre.

Stage 2: assessment centre
This will involve a number of individual and group exercises where you are assessed against our competencies. Further details regarding the assessment centre will be provided if you are invited to attend.

If you are successful at the assessment centre, you will be invited to stage 3 of the assessment process.

Stage 3: interview and presentation
You will be asked to prepare a 5-10 minute presentation to deliver in front of a small panel, followed by a short series of questions based on your presentation. You will then participate in a 45 minute competency-based interview which will also provide you with the perfect opportunity to ask us any questions about our organisation and the Graduate Programme

Stage 4: Offer
Successful applicants will have performed well in all aspects of the assessment process. If you are successful, we will make you an offer conditional upon a number of pre-employment checks including security and verification of your academic grades entered on your application.
