PHP / Python Developers - Remote

An opportunity has arisen for a PHP/Python developer to join our team in our Reading Data Centre. The successful applicant will have an enthusiastic attitude for their work with significant commercial experience in creating secure, high-performance web applications.

The role requires a good general understanding of Internet technologies and their underlying protocols, such as HTTP, SMTP and DNS. PHP, Python and MySQL applications.

You will use your experience in PHP and Python programming to create systems that integrate, automate and control our network, data centre, web portal, billing, reseller and back office infrastructure, including the provisioning systems for our dedicated server products, exposing those systems to internal and external customers via our API and contributing to its development. Working with sensitive and business critical data requires a thorough understanding of security and data integrity issues on the Internet Experience of Agile software development is desirable, working in our team of web developers you will take on the role Web Developer. We are looking for a "can do" person with enthusiasm and drive to succeed in this position. The ideal candidate will be passionate about Agile methodologies, software development and technology, and have demonstrable problem solving skills

Experience with HTML, CSS, Javascript and working to applicable W3C standards is also required.

Experience of working in an Agile software development environment, together with jQuery and knowledge of XML, Web Services, MVC and Zend Framework would be desirable.

Required Skills & Experience:-


Python or PHP and Perl experience

MySQL or PostgreSQL

RedHat & Debian Linux distributions

Web Services (Json, Soap RESTful)

NoSQL databases (Memcache, Couchbase or MongoDb)

Linux System Administrator

Working as part of a dedicated and enthusiastic team, You will be responsible, on a day to-day basis, for developing and maintaining production networks and related systems infrastructure for large ISP networks. This includes making sure that all services are available for 100% of the time as well as making sure that the services are optimised to serve as quickly as possible. Another important part of the role is to liaise with other departments in the company including Development and Support, to help resolve issues and identify areas that require work.

The candidate will be helping to maintain and enhance sy stems to support a multivendor ISP networking environment. In addition, the candidate will have an excellent knowledge of Linux systems administration, able to maintain servers supporting most infrastructure systems required for an ISP environment, including BGP route servers, DNS servers, LDAP & Radius systems, MySQL databases and Apache web servers.

The ideal candidate will work well in an international team to support a Europe-wide business and be able to collaborate with different teams and business units. In the performance of your duties, you will be expected to use your best endeavors to promote and maintain the interests and reputation of the Company at all times as well as acting as a role model for all Advisors and Specialists.

We are looking for an individual who is a problem solver and passionate about carving themselves a role with a broad range of skills. We would prefer someone who gets their hands dirty rather than specialising in one thing.

Years of experience are of course preferred but not essential - someone who can demonstrate an interest in all aspects of sy stems, networking, coding and how everything fits together, probably considers themselves a ?jack of all trades? and has the right attitude is what we need.

Required Skills & Experience:-

Systems Administration experience of infrastructure services, based on Linux (Debian/Ubuntu/CentOS) and OpenBSD

Experience with configuration management (puppet, chef etc.)

Server installation automation (TFTP/PXE/Kickstart/Anaconda/Debconf)

Creative problem solving abilities

Clear written and verbal skills

Excellent Project Management skills

Experience with revision control systems (Subversion)
