Job title: Mechanical Design Engineer Location: Stonehouse, Gloucestershire Salary: £29000 - £35000 Type: Permanent Start Date: ASAP Hours: Full time (Mon - Fri) Our client is a leading global technology company in power and automation that enables utility, industry, and transport and infrastructure customers to improve their performance while lowering environmental impact. The objective is to assist and ensure product functional performance reliability, resolve technical issues and implement improvement. What the job entails Work alongside Engineers and Scientists and multi-disciplined product design teams to support product development from conceptualization to commercialization. This includes: a. 3D modeling, detailed 2D drawing, SAP data entry, testing and validating product development concepts b. Developing and implementing test and verification schedules and quality plans along the value chain to ensure product performance during the New Product Introduction pathway c. Support project teams with design and testing of product design concepts in the laboratory and on trial sites d. Contribute manufacturing and engineering technical expertise to new product design and introduction to the manufacturing process e. Develop specifications and testing theoretical designs to create user-friendly interfaces. Innovate own designs and improvements from market specifications Implement Design Change Requests to correct/improve or add minor variants to existing product ranges Work with suppliers to ensure the manufacturing of quality components to defined specifications Implement product improvements though statistical and technical analysis of defects and customer complaints utilizing robust RCA methods Evaluate operational systems and recommend design modifications to eliminate causes of malfunctions and impacts on system requirements Implement verification and validation tools and approaches to ensure product meets functional requirements Ensure control of critical components and parts to ensure regulatory compliance and functional performance Create and implement process and product audit to ensure compliance and identify improvement opportunities Challenges: Innovation of new product design Efficiency of getting design changes into production Person Requirements Essential Degree in mechanical engineering Fully competent in using ProE and AutoCAD software Have a grounded experience in industrial or scientific instrumentation product design, sub-assembly and manufacture Mechanical / electromagnetically experience in product design and manufacture Experience of a range of quality methodology Application of statistical techniques Able to embrace new technologies to create innovative solutions Able to demonstrate attention to detail Self motivated, able to take the initiative Able to work in a multi discipline design team Desirable Green-belt 6-Sigma practitioner Experience of ISO9001 and associated systems Familiar with SAP Familiar with drawing office practices would be an advantage
