Delivery Architect / Southend-on-Sea / 4 Months Contract / 600 to 650 GBP (Per Day)

Background:

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) ? Customs & International Trade (C&IT) - Delivery Architect

The work of C&IT includes all design changes to HMRC?s IT systems to ensure that they match HMRC?s needs and objectives in the most cost-effective way and in accordance with agreed strategic design principles. C&IT is also the in-house software developer, this includes:

- Development projects (design, build and test);

- Enhancements to existing applications;

- Application support (fixing faults, service improvements, tech refresh);

- Managing Business Developed Applications (across all lines of business)

Role Description:

This role is required to undertake architecture and design activities as defined by the IT development framework for projects, to assure project architecture is delivered within agreed timescales and to peer review and assure the work of other architects operating within C&IT.

The IT Delivery Architect will be required to support in the following areas:

? Providing architectural expertise during all project phases including viability

? Producing technical approach and solution proposals

? Production of project architectural documents

? Directly liaising with strategic level architecture stakeholders to gain buy-in

? Working directly with business users and senior business stakeholders

? Reviewing security requirements, implications and liaising with HMRC security teams

? Defining technical implementation work required by suppliers

? Performing data and technical analysis to support the project and inform design/approach

? Providing ongoing technical and functional oversight throughout project delivery

? Reporting to the Head of Architecture and Consultancy in C&IT

? Coordinating project solutions to promote a consistency of approach

? Providing mentoring to HMRC technical resources on the project

? To maintain required architectural and management skills

Key Tasks & Deliverables:

? Assist with project planning identifying technical & security risks, issues and providing recommended mitigations.

? Preparation of technical approach and solution documents for agreement with CTO.

? Preparation of architecture documentation, advisory technical notes and other documentation to support Change and work orders raised against suppliers and HMRC.

? Preparation of documentation to summarise technical change in business terms for business stakeholder agreement.

? Preparation of documentation for business users to ensure a smooth transition during user impacting changes.

? Review all supplier responses to help identify the best solution and challenge responses on cost/approach where appropriate.

? Engage with business stakeholders to understand if proposed solutions meets requirement.

? Identify solutions to technical issues that arise as a matter of course during the project.

? Support implementation of solutions through to successful implementation.

? Work with HMRC?s strategic architecture and security areas to ensure that the project meets HMRC strategic objectives.

Key Knowledge & Skills (Experience):

The IT Delivery Architect will be required to support in the following areas:

? Prepare Analysis and Design products to HMRC standards.

? Support and provide guidance to project technical and data analysts

? Support the project manager throughout the project

? Participate in reviews of other development deliverables

? Provide progress reports to management.

Essential skills

? Must have good verbal communication skills.

? Must be capable of producing IT architectural documentation to a high standard

? Knowledge of wide range of IT architecture patterns and implementations

Desirable skills

? Experience of development on UNIX environments, including Solaris.

? Knowledge of Web logic, JBOSS, Tomcat

? Experience of decommissioning legacy applications and technologies on an enterprise scale.

? Must have experience in IT security and working with security accreditors

? Should have acted in capacity as Solution Architect, System Designer and Designer/Programmer in a mixed development environment including J2EE.

? Should have experience of working within and exploiting a strategic, enterprise architecture.

? Should have experience of integrating web-based applications with legacy applications and technologies.

? Should have experience in data and business analysis

? Experience of office tools, Confluence, Jira, etc.

? Ability to quickly understand low-level technical detail to support the project

? Knowledge of TOGAF and common architectural standards.

? Knowledge and understanding of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)

? Knowledge or previous experience working within HMRC including knowledge of the HMRC Confidential Infrastructure & Law Enforcement Applications.

? Knowledge of HMRC & Border Force Law Enforcement Business.
