Combat Systems Integration Engineer (Communications)

Would you like to be involved in developing the integration strategy and plan of activities for Type 26 communication systems? We currently have a vacancy for a Combat Systems Integration Engineer (Communications) based from either our Filton or Broad Oak sites.

As a Combat Systems Integration Engineer (Communications), you will be designing, developing, reviewing and validating Type 26 integration and test documents specifically for communication systems. You will also be involved with the development of the associated integration support environment and land based integration facility.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to be part of a high profile project for Type 26, getting involved at an early stage shaping the future of this project. The role will also allow you to work with cutting edge technology and progress your career within this domain.

Your main responsibilities as a Combat Systems Integration Engineer (Communications) will involve:

Developing the Integration Strategy and plan of activities for T26 Communications, Tactical Data Link (TDL), High Grade Messaging (HGM), Visual Surveillance System (VSS), Medium Range Radar (MRR) and Platform Management System (PMS) that are aligned with the T26 Combat System (CS) integration strategy, management plan and master equipment logic flow documentation

Designing and developing T26 Communications, TDL, HGM, VSS, MRR and PMS integration and trials requirements for the T26 Platforms, land based integration facility and integration support environments

Reviewing and validating the T26 Communications, TDL, HGM, VSS, MRR and PMS test and integration documentation and schedules provided to T26 by the Combat Systems Equipment (CSE) supplier contract

Observing the conduct of integration activities, where specified in the CS integration strategy, and collating evidence to contribute to achievement of CS acceptance

Supporting the CSE delivery leads in progressing and achieving supply agreements, design development agreements and procurement contracts, providing the appropriate Integration, Test & Trials (IT&T) contributions

Facilitating liaison between CSE delivery leads, CSE Suppliers and wider members of IT&T for T26 Communications, TDL, HGM, VSS, MRR and PMS integration matters

Identifying CS IT&T safety and technical risks and proposing mitigation actions

Your skills and qualifications:


Degree qualified or equivalent qualification or experience in an engineering discipline

Appreciation of wider RN platform design and principles of operation

Experience working in more than one phase of the lifecycle, with sufficient experience of the total lifecycle management process to enable a good understanding of adjacent phases and through life engineering issues


Chartered Engineer or working towards

Knowledge of combat systems from one of the following environments:

Type 23, Type 45, CVF Mission System, or similar, and their integration approaches

Awareness of the integration process and knowledge of some combat system equipment
